Ok I gotta be honest if I was a conservative troll and I saw this I would be like, yup, got em good
If you've built a personality around gleefully "offending liberals," here's what you need to know: we aren't offended. You haven't hurt our feelings or made us cry. You sound like children to us, and we're sick of responding over and over to your infuriatingly stupid talking points, but we keep doing it because people's lives might literally be at stake if the wrong kind of idiocy is allowed to spread too far.
You're not erudite debaters owning the libsiYou're the rotten annoying little kids kicking the backs of our seats while we're trying to keep the car on the road.

I'm sorry I know there's a whole important story and the Icarus thing at the end but I got distracted because one of my interests is word tricks used to imply humble beginnings. So sweeping is not a job, it's one duty in some low level jobs, and was it even a job or family pitching in on afternoons
John Georges likes to tell you he got his start sweeping the floors of his grandfather's business. He likes to tell you he watches both Fox News and CNN. He likes to tell you he rebuilt the Greek Orthodox church in New Orleans after Katrina, brought the shuttered Greek consulate back after 20 years and was made honorary consul - a title he likes to tell you he never asked for.

Ok so you know that thing where Facebook shows your friends ads with pictures of your face inserted with AI based on scraping your old photos, well here's the process to opt out of it, which is absolutely insane us.norton.com/blog/ai/how-... you fill out a form from a link buried 3 levels deep
Relevant Prompts
I didn't enter any prompts. Muse used my face in an Al generated ad shown to my friends. I assume this came from photos I uploaded in the past to Facebook or Instagram as I have not posted anything in years.Screenshot of response
Attach one screenshot that shows yo response from an Al at Meta model, f must be less than 4 MB and saved as WebP file.

Additional context
My friend did not take a screenshot because they were too creeped out.

Serious question - will LAT actually follow up on this story or will they leave it as is implying the Tesla is possibly at fault?
They never followed up on that Tesla accident in Texas where it crashed into a house killing a lady. The investigation revealed the driver to be 100% at fault and he was charged with manslaughter.
Just published the initial story implying the car was at fault.

Zoox said it doesn't modify the ventilation systems in these SUVs. But making any changes to a vehicle can increase the risk that gases will leak into the cabin. In the Ford investigation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in 2023 that the highest levels of carbon monoxide were found in police vehicles that had added sirens, lights, and other modifications, all of which can create sealing issues.

Every explainer on Jev, including official docs, are like, "oh you can ask the model to give you the answer as a Choice, a Score, or a Noul" and everybody is just like "oh of course a noul" and I'm like am I being gaslit? You have to go to a Hacker News comment to find out it's short for Bernoulli
Choice: Pick from a set of options. Returns a probability for each option and an overall confidence score.
Score: Rate an input against ordered levels, such as low, medium, and high. Returns a continuous score, the underlying distribution, and a confidence value.
Noul: Answer a yes-or-no question. Returns the probability that a statement is true.

I realize they meant well but it's mind boggling that you'd be a data scientist at DraftKings and bust your butt developing a way to identify potential gambling addiction before it happens and expect management to not throw it away like you brought them a dead rat www.nytimes.com/2026/09/19/b...
One was a data scientist named Nestor Hernandez, who in mid-2024 began building a system that would help the responsible gaming division identify gamblers in trouble.
Mr. Hernandez, a computer science Ph.D., had spent years using algorithms to detect unusual patterns in large amounts of data.In early 2025, Mr. Shannin said, the team prepared to share the new model with company officials, including Ms. Kalani. But the day of the presentation, the meeting was canceled. Two other attempts by DraftKings employees to build similar algorithms have also been shelved, according to two former employees.
Ms. Kalani said that company leaders made a
"collective decision" not to use predictive technology for problem gambling. "We evaluated that it wasn't evidence-based," she said. The company decided that its existing system was a "better methodology."

I have some concerns about what Hegseth's guys are actually using the chatbots for www.cnn.com/2026/09/18/p...
In this particular instance, the analyst queried a chatbot about some intelligence reporting on the ship's manifest that originated with US Special Operations Command Pacific, based in Hawaii. It was not clear whether the chatbot was a commercially available one or a US

Read a NYT article about Trump officials looking into revoking visas over a Charlie Kirk joke event at Berkeley and then read it in the Daily Cal and realized the NYT only quoted one student (with a "both sides" view) and left out a lot of other interesting details www.dailycal.org/news/campus/...
with courage and with his faith," said John Paul Leon, president of TPUSA at UC Berkeley, at the event. "You don't have to agree with everything he said, but when you support the literal political violence and action against this man, that is an act of moral depravity."
For most of the event's duration, the speeches, highlighting the importance of free speech and the danger of political censorship, were attended by one person, and were otherwise marked by boos from passersby on Sproul.

I think that if campuses become legally required to provide massive security details and 24/7 continuous drone surveillance any time a conservative troll comes to speak then this would greatly reduce the amount of conservative trolls invited to speak on campus, so go for it
The notice states that Utah Valley University and its police department failed to conduct a meaningful risk assessment or take proper steps to oversee a safe event or even write up a security plan for Kirk's "The American Comeback Tour." Only six police officers were assigned to work the event, Tuminez denied a request to add more officers and UVU failed to ask for assistance from other agencies such as the Orem and Provo police departments, the notice states.Furthermore, the Kirk family contends that surveillance cameras were not monitored in real time and drones were not used for rooftop security. At Robinson's preliminary hearing, prosecutors presented campus security video that "showed the shooter running across the roof of the Losee Building to a 'sniper's nest.' If such footage had been monitored in real-time, Kirk's tragic death could have been avoided," according to the notice.

I know this is going to be hard to believe, but a very very long time ago, Dilbert was actually funny sometimes and "good lord! another circle has formed around us!" has stayed with me since, uh, wow, 1991
Dilbert comic strip from 1991 that starts with a reporter saying "I'm standing at the wickford wheat fields outside of London, the site of mysterious giant circles, possibly caused by aliens." Next panel the reporter asks "how do you find these circles of crushed wheat?" and a researcher says "my team of experts starts at one point and searches outward until..." and in the final panel the researcher says "good lord! another circle has formed around us!!" and it has.

Just to be clear I don't think Peter Thiel should be burned at the stake but I think that we should have the debate. I'm fair minded enough to listen to unorthodox ideas I disagree with instead of just silencing them for being wrongthink
Patheos, the nondenominational religious publication, said it was "better to ignore" Thiel's "twisting of scripture" while the Franciscan friar who serves as the Pope's chief advisor on AI called Thiel a heretic and suggested that his role in the Big Tech oligarchy qualified him to be burned at the stake.

Also this is a uh interesting take on AI data centers, that they'll figure some way to shrink the computers because they always do I guess?? Moore's Law still humming along swimmingly right
"I have a hugely contrarian view of three things:
I'm not afraid of AI necessarily. I'm not really afraid of data centers because I think at some point no one's going to need them. Like, we don't need a giant Texas Instruments calculator. It's all going to shrink, and they'll use them for skate parks or housing or something" Wald said. "And I don't think Bari Weiss is automatically bad for the news business.

This is from a thread about "I'm not MAHA but I can explain why people like me go MAHA" and finding out this person is a poli sci PhD, this really rubs me the wrong way like how is it even relevant here, is it a badge that you're a general smart person so doctors should especially respect you
But what do I know, I'm just a woman who has *also* been dismissed & talked rudely to by my kids' docs, despite my PhD & citing NIH literature.
Getting dismissed for real concerns about your kid is an EASY way to send a Mom to bad places on the Internet who seem to "care" and offer "help."
