May 18th 1980. Mount St. Helens is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing volcanoes in the US. This eruption was both tragic and scientific gift, an inspiration to many to learn more. Me included. I love going to visit her, with my geology friends, as she still has many stories to tell us. 🌋🧪⚒️

This is progress, as far as it goes. But land-burning should be banned here for all purposes other than firebreaks and emergencies. There should be no burning by grouse estates, and no "swaling" on Dartmoor and Exmoor (torching regenerating woodland for sheep pasture). www.gov.uk/government/n...

Irish authorities have the exact same totally clueless approach to flooding: try to manage the symptoms, never the causes. If you replace virtually all natural habitats with just grass, sitka, or concrete, flooding is inevitable, even without climate breakdown. And it WILL get worse, much worse.
