I’m not sure, but I wonder if this is the case because they didn’t assume they’d be in electoral danger, so now they’re scrambling.

The article says it’s because the GOP/MAGA groups waited til the last minute to reserve slots, whereas the others bought the airtime a long time ago
But that money may have come too late, forcing the president’s group to pay much higher rates because of the shrinking availability of air time. Four Republican Senate campaign officials said groups that reserved advertising time last spring paid much lower rates than MAGA Inc. and its affiliated groups.

Another very 👀 tidbit from this week’s roundup:
A proposal that would have required FedEx to produce a report on how it manages the potential legal risks of shipping abortion pills in light of the Comstock Act failed at the company’s annual shareholder meeting. The proposal was introduced by a Catholic “values investing” firm called IWP Capital, and authored by none other than Christian nationalist law firm Alliance Defending Freedom, a leading proponent of the theory that Comstock bans mailing abortion pills, if not all medical devices used in abortion care.

You know when public attention can reverse a prosecutorial decision like this you almost get the sense that the decision to shrug it off in the first place was not based on an assessment of the quality of the evidence so much as an assessment of the seriousness of the crime.

People are very resistant to the idea that patriarchy is about a relationship to power. Is every man abusive? No, plainly not. But patriarchy affords them the ability to misuse their power in a way that people of other genders cannot. So the more power they accumulate, the greater that temptation.

Teenage pregnancy is riskier for both baby and parent than adult pregnancy. I think very young marriage/pregnancy wasn’t as common historically as some may think. Even nobility, who married young, would sometimes wait to have kids because of the risk.

I feel like the way is thru is acknowledging complexity and calling out leftist misogyny: ‘Feminist but kind of racist’ ‘Leftist generally but misogynistic/conservative on gender’ (I particularly like naming it as conservative because a leftist would hate that/wouldn’t want to be that.)
110
մրլ @morls.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
Misogyny is still so prevalent/unchecked, even on the left. And as Moira Donegan says, “feminists’ missteps are given disproportionate attention, significance, and publicity.”

I think there IS value in preserving our words against reactionary appropriation…but there’s trouble with that type of purity testing. If we apply to all feminists, who remains? Not many.

մրլ @morls.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
Would we say that major figures in black liberation/civil rights were not actually fighting for black liberation if they were also misogynistic? (E.g., Malcolm X.) Probs not!

մրլ @morls.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
I def get what you’re saying, but I’d add some nuance/push back a bit. Andrea Dworkin famously had weird things to say re: race. Elizabeth Cady Stanton also had a horrible turn for a time re: race. Does that mean they’re not feminists? Well, I think they are, but it’s more complicated than that.

մրլ @morls.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
I think of this as rly reflecting the deep roots of misogyny/patriarchy, including on the left.

If someone considers themselves a leftist but is uncritical of their internalized patriarchal values/beliefs, then they may be leftist in some ways but they’re certainly conservative on gender!

I hate associating these forces with “””wokeness”””, thought. I feel it’s more a product of sheep-in-wolf’s-clothing, taking advantage of true and good sexual liberation to justify exploitative patriarchal dynamics.

It's like a parody, but it's deadly serious; the Commerce Department (which includes Census, NOAA, and others) has outright deleted "don't alter or suppress scientific findings for political reasons" from its scientific integrity rules. Seriously.
Protecting against "inappropriate influence" is no longer a "hallmark" of scientific integrity

The Commerce Department updated its policy for promoting a "culture of scientific integrity" in January 2025, days before Trump's second inauguration.

A new Trump administration order bans the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis from using statistical “noise,” or data for fuzzing survey results, to protect people’s privacy in their statistics.

The 2025 version included bans on attempts to shape or interfere in data collection, statistical analysis and other scientific activities "against well-accepted scientific methods and theories or without scientific justification."

The department's policy, the 2025 version said, involves ensuring scientific findings at its agencies "are not suppressed, delayed, or altered for political purposes and are not subjected to inappropriate influence," as well as making sure there's "independent review of facilities, methodologies, and other scientific activities as appropriate to ensure scientific integrity."

That language is missing, however, in the Trump administration's revision of the policy, according to an NPR analysis of text posted on the Commerce Department's website.

And while the revision adopts a definition for "scientific integrity" that is similar to the previous version, it no longer says that "protection from inappropriate influence" is among the "hallmarks of scientific integrity."

"The men now that are like 'Oh, we need to protect the WNBA,’ y'all were the same ones saying we shouldn't be paid," Cloud continued. "Y'all were the same ones saying we shouldn't have been invested in, saying we're a joke, the same ones that don't respect Black women. So, if you're going to protect women, that means all women. This is a related and expanded graphic which emphasizes an important point: Higher speeds reduce your visibility and reaction time, making it more likely you'll hit someone or something, and then when you *do* hit them, it's more likely to be fatal.
A graphic that says Why Speed Matters

Below that are two stats:

Drivers yield 75% of the time while traveling 20 mph
Drivers yield only 17% of the time when traveling 37 mph

The next line shows that drivers have a much wider field of vision at 15 mph as compared to 30 to 40 mph.

Finally, there are three stats:

9 out of 10 pedestrians survive when hit by a car traveling 20 mph
5 out of 10 survive at 30
1 out of 10 surive at 40
