I rarely make public criticisms of new papers, but Sancarlo & Paul's latest "paper" is nothing more than a brazen act of taxonomic vandalism. And the organization(?) that publishes the "journal' has a 'family photos' section on their website.

Skye in the Lauer Foundation laboratory carefully holding a slab of limestone with a fossil in it. The fossil is blurred and has the words 'new pterosaur species' over it. Skye is a woman with blue and brown hair, glasses, and is wearing a vertically striped denim jumpsuit. Even though she looks completely dead inside, she is actually very excited although slightly concerned about holding a fossil for a publicity photo.

Amazing reconstruction of a famous eurypterid site! Here's one member of that fauna, Acutiramus macrophthalamus (UMMP IP 86635).
Fossil eurypterid preserved as black on gray matrix. Segments and a paddle-like tail are clearly visible, as is one of the large claws.

I've been drained from paleo. So I will be taking an extended break from it for awhile. When I am getting stressed from having to deal with people being annoying, arrogant/ignorant, or mansplaining my own field to me while I am trying to take a break from my stressful personal life, its too much.

New #paleoart of the Welsh theropod Dracoraptor hanigani, restored with appropriately neotheropodan features. UK marine sediments have a glut of small Jurassic theropods, with Dracoraptor one of the best-known. #sciart Like this image? You can own a copy! www.markwitton.co.uk/product-page...
A small predatory dinosaur emerges from the darkness of a Welsh cave into the bright sunlight of a beach. Waves crash over dark rocks, and the sand is bleached almost white by the sun. A solitary cloud occurs in the deep, blue sky.

It's all fantasy, of course. The weather in Wales is never this good.

Still alive as work on Book 7 enters the last few days, though I am quite sleep-deprived. And which joker organised daylight savings so close to my deadline? Thanks, jerk. Here's some #paleoart of the Jurassic pterosaur Balaenognathus soaring over dinoflagellates, the source of their pink bodies.
Pink pterosaurs, pink water. A flock of pterosaurs adapted for filter-feeding soar along a Jurassic coast undergoing a phytoplankton bloom, exposing the source of the pink carotenoids that they sequester into their fuzz to make their bodies and faces pink. Marine carotenoids would have been especially common from the Mesozoic onwards, and it's very plausible that animals like pterosaurs would have picked them up in their diets.
