Any heebie/jeebie “evangelical” I have seen about like, ELCA, comes from folks with a terrible experience in the SBC and no experience with ELCA.

Most people in the Midwest, AFAICT, know the “evangelical” denominations by their acronyms and don’t know what the E is. Same as Black churches, actually.

Oh yes absolutely. I became a Midwesterner *after* I became a mainline Protestant, so that was easier for me.

Oh yes that’s real! The ECC is pretty Chicago-focused and I would not join them but my best friend at CPE was ECC. She was very kind and thoughtful and supportive and not pressuring - both to the patients and to me (I hated CPE.)

Okay I have another idea for excellent academic research. Low key @jackbandy.com might know a guy. If you use ask AI to "pull a card" from a Tarot deck, does it pull the cards in a statistically significant way? Using all brand-new (as much as possible) profiles with no context.

I actually have a fascinating question for religion/politics scholars. RM said that religiosity was useful for Democratic politicians to signal civility for suburban white women swing voters. (This is @kkdumez.bsky.social coded, but with a more survey-based analysis I think) (1/2)

A lot of people don't give signs that they'll pull the ladder up after them until they reach the top. (I notice a lot of people who seem like good people until they come into some money and lose their other values.)

Okay! I think I do know! It's the Evangelical (Protestant) thing. It is a Thing (oversimplification) that in Latin America the two Christian sects are Catholic and Evangelical. So, Evangelical is generally every non-Catholic Christian, but, statistically, there is no secret third option.

I need to run a POA workshop sometime at the dive. A lot of these guys don't have local wives.

But some of the patients were quite elderly and 1) shit can go wrong in podiatry 2) now the hospital has that on record, and will in case they ever come back for a non-podiatry reason.

At my hospital the DNR paperwork was done through the Chaplain's office, but I never worked with a patient who had a terminal diagnosis, just with folks who were going in for like podiatry but needed to fill out the paperwork anyway. So it was just in case, not a move to palliative care options.

It's nice that (if well done) it gives information, lets the patient know what to think about, presumably lets them read more on their own time I hope, doesn't skip over important questions, and saves all the answers to the chart.

I defer all final opinions to @suesswassersee.bsky.social if she feels otherwise. I assume there are six thousand other ways to have a better discussion about this than how they trained me for POA/DNR discussions ("Hey! It's your first day. Go talk to a patient!")
