An unexpected element of having a summer newborn is that you don't actually get to do a lot of summer stuff. Pretty much all summer activities are too hot & sunny for a little guy with no ability to regulate temperature or wear sunscreen. Still, I'll take it over being postpartum in midwinter.

One cool thing Judaism has that I think other cultures should adopt is a certain amount of measured, optimistic caution when someone is pregnant. We know that pregnancy can go catastrophically badly overnight; the most common reply to a pregnancy announcement translates basically to “in good time”

I grew a human inside me for thirty-eight whole weeks, and I am already forgetting what it felt like to be pregnant—the intense fatigue, the overwhelming fullness, the little (and big) kicks and movements. It feels unfathomable that something so all-encompassing could so quickly be fading.
