I may have just convinced the owner of a storage facility in rural California to look into having barn owl boxes installed on the property, and ditching the rodenticide bait boxes 🦉

I have been extremely absent from BlueSky lately, and it’s nothing personal against BlueSky, I have just been extremely busy with work, and then there was an owl in Central Park, so you know, priorities 🦉

Another unsatisfied customer 😤 (she bonked her head on a window and then tried to fight me when I rescued her lol) #birds
Looking down into a brown paper bag - at the bottom of the bag is a tiny bird - a Common Yellowthroat, though all we see from this angle is her olive back and one little leg sticking out to the side.

I was in the park earlier looking at something through my binoculars and a man walking by said to his friends “fall migration is here, so the birdwatchers are out,” referring to me like I was a seasonal zoo exhibit 😭

RIP Wendell Berry 🍃
A poem from Wendell Berry set again to e of my autumn forest photos.

The fragment of the earth
that is now me is only on its way
through me. It is on its way
from having been a tree,
a school of fish, a terrapin,
a flock of birds. It will pass
through all those forms again.

An Eastern Cottontail rabbit in profile in the tall grass and among various other greenery. You can’t really tell from the picture because of all the greenery, but the rabbit is up on her hind legs.

Eclipse rained out in Astoria tonight ☹️ Moon rise good in Astoria last night 🌝 Almost-full Moon, 8.26.26
A an almost-full yellow moon hides behind silhouetted tree branches in a dark gray-blue skyThe same almost-full moon, now rising from behind the silhouetted tree branches. The moon is in focus, the branches are not. The moon is bright with just a slight warm tint; the sky is dark blueThe same almost-full moon, almost clear of the tree branches; one out of focus end of a branch covers part of the bottom 1/3 of the moon. The sky is even darker blue in this picture The same almost-full moon, now above the tree branches, which are just barely visible in the very dark navy sky. An almost imperceptible haze surrounds the moon

Sunset sunflowers 🌻🌞 East River, Astoria, July 2026 #bloomscrolling
A sunflower on the shore of the East River, partially obscured by leaves. The river and the opposite shore, bridge and train tracks, and electric lights are all out of focus, blurred in the background. The entire scene is awash in the orange glow of the sunsetAnother sunflower on the same evening. This one is much taller than the others, and is facing up and away from the camera, with dainty leaves on either side of its tall stem, and an unopened bulb on the left. First of the season Ruby-throated Hummingbird in Central Park this week ❤️🪶
Nestled behind blurry out-of-focus green and red flowers and leaves at the right of center is a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, feeding on a cardinal flower. His head and beak are in focus, the rest of him is obscured by the blurry flower, but some green iridescence from his feathers is visible. The birds were all 🤔😐😧 Canada Geese (ft. Mallard), Northern Cardinal, and American Robin in Central Park, 7.31.2026 #birds
Two Canada geese and a mallard duck on a rock in the middle of water that is a dingy green. One goose is standing, staring off into the distance through the sheets of rain falling on and around them. The rain is picking up the sunlight and many individual drops are thus appearing as small orbs of bright white light A male Northern Cardinal, bright red, perched on a rustic wooden fence next to a sprig of green weeds. A few raindrops can be seen falling around him and he is also staring off into the distance An American Robin, floofed up and taking shelter in a tree with bright green leaves, very backlit by bright sunlight

Very normal weather in Central Park yesterday!
Bow Bridge in Central Park, on which people are standing, taking pictures, etc, over part of the lake, on which there are at least seven paddle boats containing multiple people. Sunlight is causing a glare on the water, but the entire scene is under a veil of steady rain.Close up of some dark-green-leafed plants in the rain, that are also being extremely back-lit by the sunlight coming through the background, causing out of focus orbs of light and water. A mulch path next to a rocky stream in Central Park, shrouded on all sides by bright green tree canopy. A ball of white-hot sunlight bursts through the canopy at the top of frame, and the scene appears bright, though it is actively also raining
