So are we gonna tariff toilet paper and cement now?

Christy Linders @mmcmdl.bsky.social · 27/08/2026

This is very interesting. If Lutnick spoke to Carney twice in the 24 hours before the deal broke down, what was he talking about? Was he adding or reinterpreting demands?

Why can no American pronounce "premier" properly? It refers to a politician, not a movie.

Had the most magical evening in Bridgewater at @gooddogbooks.bsky.social!! Fantastic chats, hibiscus iced tea, & even a few signed copies left behind if you're in the area! It struck me how special reading communities are and what a privilege it is to be given the space to exist in readers' orbits.

Two people sitting on a couch in a bookstore, in front of a crowd of people sitting in folding chairs. Sarah is wearing a long, floral dress and smiling.

A thought from last night's Q&A worth repeating: I used to see publishing as a race. I was losing if I wasn't making Big Progress Now. What a silly way to see your passion in life! Lately I've pictured it as a relay race, but one where I'm not competing against anyone, only helping my "next" self.

Hey @chapmans.ca! Time for you to come to the rescue of Canadian popsicle lovers! The competition has steadily decreased the choices available. Can we get standalone boxes of root beer, cherry, chocolate and lime ice pops? PS - Your Cold Brew Coffee ice cream is magnificent!

10 years ago, I co-founded an awesome indie press who make fiction anthologies for charity (they are still doing amazing things @tldrpress.bsky.social!) With my debut book I have the privilege of continuing that spirit of community as the July pick for Ampersand's monthly sales commission donation!

we're donating our commissions. In an effort to raise awareness and support for our Canadian LGBTQ+ and BIPOC authors and communities, Ampersand is donating publication month commissions to a charity of the author's choosing for one title by an LGBTQ+ or BIPOC author.

A FATE WORSE THAN DROWNING author Sarah L. Hawthorn has chosen the Rainbow Refugee Association of Nova Scotia as the recipient of our commissions donation.

Whether it's pre-ordering, requesting a copy at your library, or mentioning my book to a friend, you'd be surprised just how much any support matters!! Both to me and the success of my maritime gothic love letter. I'm so excited to finally see a dream I've had since I was a teenager come true ❤️❤️❤️

I can finally, officially say: I'm one month out from the release of my debut novel! ❤️🌊❤️ Luckily, one of the questions I get most often is: What's most helpful to do to support? (Thank you, so many times over, for caring to ask!) So I thought it'd be helpful to list some of the best ways:

1 month until A FATE WORSE THAN DROWNING releases on July 21, 2026

How to support my launch! 1 pre-order at your favourite store. 2 request at your local library. 3 add on Goodreads, Storygraph, etc. 4 share that you're excited 5 join me for fun release week events!

There are some politicians in Nova Scotia who could benefit from reading this article. www.davidmoscrop.com/p/canada-is-...

We need a national re-orientation, what parents often call an attitude adjustment, mister! That shift begins with us accepting that things cost money and having the reasonable tools to do the job of running a country, which includes a house for the prime minister and (gasp!) business lounge access for cabinet ministers, is non-negotiable. From there, we might bid ourselves up to accepting that investments in the welfare state, arts and culture, and infrastructure are also non-negotiable, the price of building a country worth living in.

NEW Statement from the family of Alex Pretti:

Statement from the family of Alex Pretti:

"We are heartbroken but also very angry.

Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman.

The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed.

Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man.”

Let's remember to be cautious and patient if and when we inevitably start to see higher volumes of pedestrians and cyclists on the roads while the trails are closed.
I encourage you all to slow your speed and give lots of space to help remind others to do the same. Let's make the most of a challenging time and keep our community safe!
