This is empirical data from a nationwide cohort study. Our results highlight the long-term consequences non-pharmaceuptical interventions may have on immunity development and infection risk in young children and the need for preparedness strategies to mitigate similar effects in future pandemics.

Children born in 2020 had markedly lower hospitalisation rates during their first two years of life than both pre-pandemic cohorts. However, between ages 2 and 4, they exhibited significantly higher hospitalisation risk compared with both pre-pandemic cohorts.

The recorded death toll from the Ebola outbreak in the DRC is about to cross 1,000 cases. In reality there have likely been a lot more deaths already. Many new cases appear to have no link to known cases, suggesting much of the spread is still happening in the dark.

Jag skrev en text om hur pandemier kan uppstå, men utgångspunkt från hantavirusutbrottet. Men innan den hann publiceras kom rapporten om ebolautbrottet i Centralafrika. Jag har därför modifierat texten lite, men principerna är detsamma: mutationer i zoonotiska virus utgör det största pandemihotet.

Det innebär att bostadsområdets socioekonomiska status fångar in skillnader även när man tar hänsyn till individens socioekonomiska position (och massa andra individuella faktorer). Det finns en koppling till debatten om grannskapseffekter, och kanske att detta kan bidra med lite data och insikter!
