Again, what right wing Republicans and Democrats call "socialism" is the sort of regulated capitalism that was consensus for much of the 20th century. They pretend it's anti-market when really it's only anti-oligarchy

Billionaires being unafraid to say things like this publicly is a major indicator of how bad things have gotten

Cosmically, there is something very darkly funny about spending an entire decade of American politics obsessed with repudiating the mistakes of the Iraq War, and then immediately doing it again at the first opportunity, but with even less justification, planning, strategy, or foresight.

The biggest effect I see from people still spending time on X—which many deny or don't even notice—is how it shifts their perception of what's normal. Such as: Actively anti-trans is speaking like a normal person Objecting to Nazi symbols turns off the working class Epstein knew a bunch of Jews etc

Next president will have to rebuild the federal government while fighting a cadre of insane billionaires the whole way. The more bleak things get the more absurd it seems to consider electing some common weasel who wants to be president because he wants to be president

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

🕵🏽 Epstein Was an FBI Informant. And That’s Why He Got Away With It.
A newly leaked FBI memo confirms what many suspected: Epstein wasn’t just protected. He was used — by U.S. intelligence, and likely Mossad, to advance Zionist interests.

Elon Musk, the richest man in the world and an open white supremacist, has a child's understanding of how government works. He has fired tens of thousands of people and believes all taxation and spending are illegitimate. He thinks his financial assistance to Trump gives him the power to set policy.

Another failure of the Obama era democratic majority. When Obama was elected to his first term, ICE as an agency had existed for only 5 years. Instead we handed over an army of racist hogs to Donald Trump

Spanking does not produce good behavior. Authoritarian violence -- and make no mistake, that's what it is when you hit your kid, even if you tell yourself it's "just a swat" -- produces little authoritarians, full of fear & suppressed anger. (I know Kendra knows this.)

Nostalgia in politics can work for more than one thing, it doesn't only have to be a guy saying "Don't you miss being racist" it could be a different guy saying "Remember when people had pensions"

"Scientific insiders." You mean...scientists? The people who do science and understand it? I'm not saying they're beyond suspicion, but when I look at the US over the past 20 years, I do not have the impression that our major problem is that _scientists_ have too much power.

its genuinely incredible that the government has been taken over by vandals, thieves, and bald-faced liars and the media is more or less reporting on them like they're normal heads of state

Contrary to media reports, a significant portion of working-class Boomer wealth will not be handed down within families. The capitalist class has been preparing to intercept this for decades and has already begun doing so through both forced debt schemes and medical/elderly care.

trump throws out shit like this all the time because an important part of his electoral coalition are low information voters that think he's pursuing moderate or even left-wing policy. republicans and trump laugh and laugh at these types of voters! they think its hilarious how easy they are to fool

Capitalists have siphoned all of the wealth from society (our collective labor), leaving most of the population broke, and are now looking to replace a significant percentage of us with AI. What comes next? Based on their police budgets, they seem to think it's widespread unrest.

The MAGA-AfD alliance of extremists is not surprising, but it remains outrageous. If democracy is to prevail, America needs to establish a robust anti-fascist consensus

Why on earth would a protest movement against the worst president in US history begin by acknowledging that he's not so bad www.nytimes.com/2025/05/01/o...
The patriotic response to today’s threat is to oppose Mr. Trump. But it is to do so soberly and strategically, not reflexively or performatively. It is to build a coalition of Americans who disagree about many other subjects — who span conservative and progressive, internationalist and isolationist, religious and secular, business-friendly and labor-friendly, pro-immigration and restrictionist, laissez-faire and pro-government, pro-life and pro-choice — yet who believe that these subjects must be decided through democratic debate and constitutional processes rather than the dictates of a single man.

The building of this coalition should start with an acknowledgment that Mr. Trump is the legitimate president and many of his actions are legal. Some may even prove effective. He won the presidency fairly last year, by a narrow margin in the popular vote and a comfortable margin in the Electoral College. On several key issues, his views were closer to public opinion than those of Democrats.

I know it's not the most important thing here but this story also corroborates one of my biggest theories about these tech guys: they do zero hours of work in a day. They do no work no matter how much they claim to work 14 hours a day. They're just on their phones.

a huge amount of elite weirdness over the past 10 years has been driven by people who are mostly politically conservative but don't see themselves at the type of person (socially) who is conservative and can't reconcile the two facts
