Continuing my series of games where you can pet an animal, there is Control Resonant. A dog that is apparently stranded in an otherworldly Manhattan that is being invaded by the Hiss (among other things), but this doggo seems not to mind. Game is otherwise also pretty rad! #gaming #control

Having an absolute blast with the Gothic 1 remake. Captures the feel of the original incredibly well, mostly doing away with frustrations like the clunky controls and reducing frustration without reducing the difficulty. love the addition of mounts, which you can also pet! #gothic #gaming

Happy Mario day!

Been playing Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Teams newest horror game. Loving its atmosphere and tough as nails combat. As befitting any scary horror game, there are cute cats in the game that you can, of course, pet. #gaming #cronos #cats

Keep it up everyone, if we just keep making games with women and pronouns we can eventually ensure that the chuds never get to enjoy a single new video game ever again

Just started up the new DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Pretty neat to also see parts of Rome outside the Vatican. If you explore a bit, you can also find a cat to pet (supposedly one that is not too fond of fascists). #indianajones #gaming #cats

Playing SW Jedi Survivor right now. While performance can be a bit rough, the game itself is quite stellar. Also love small touches like being able to pet these creatures, called boglings. In the first game you saw them from afar, but never being able to touch them (afaik). #gaming #starwars

Been playing #OldSkies by #WadjetEyeGames, the devs of many great PnC adventure games like Unavowed (not to be confused with Obsidians recent RPG) and the Blackwell games. I love their take on time travel in this one. It's not a topic I usually enjoy, but this feels like a very fresh take on it.

Done with Trails Through Daybreak 2. Enjoyed this game quite a bit, despite a lot of naysayers in the Trails community, I thought that it acted as a decent extended epilogue to Daybreak 1. So sure, I can understand not being a fan of that, but for what it is, it's great. #Trails #JRPG #Kiseki

It's that time of the year to think back on the best games of the last year. One surprising title I keep coming back to is Felvidek, an indie RPG set in 15th century Slovakia Especially loved its groovy, funk/jazz soundtrack. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH5e... #gaming #indie #rpg #OST

My replay this year. Surprising number of new games I played this year, at 43% it's pretty close to half, and I believe even the other half is counted as "recent". Pretty crazy year for JRPGs in particular, with a new Trails games, Metaphor, and many others I didn't get to play yet.

Well this is grim
weird interaction with a student this week. they kept coming up with weird "facts" ("greek is actually a combination of four other languages") that left me baffled. i said let's look this stuff up together, and they said ok, i'll open a search bar, and they opened... ch*tgptand i was like "this is not a search bar" and they were like "yes it is, you can search for anything in here"

the thing that made me feel crazy is like. every kid that's using this as a browser is getting new BESPOKE false "facts." this isn't "a widespread misconception about X that stems from how it's taught in schools." each individual kid is now hooked into a Nonsense Machine

with the "widespread misconception about X" you can start at a baseline. like, ok, in tenth grade we all talk about X thing from history, and that leaves us with some misguided concepts about X, but we can correct that as students get broader understandings of the world

but with this, each child is getting UNIQUE wrong facts they are SURE are correct... because they did what we told them to do! they "looked it up"! they got it from somewhere! it's not a kid making up a belief on hearsay and assumption... it's something they think they LEARNEDthis kid was extremely combative with me, and i understood why. i was sitting in front of him and telling him that the internet, a computer, technology, all these supposedly authoritative things... were wrong. and that i, one person, was right. he basically *couldn't* believe me.

he decided that i was simply a teacher who'd made a mistake. he could check it, after all! he could look it up! he could find the REAL facts. i obviously hadn't done that, i was just an adult who'd decided i was smarter than him. hence the defensiveness. like i said: i understood

One of the most impressive things for me when playing Metaphor is how open and earnest the game is with its politics. One of the game's virtues is "Tolerance" and so much of the story is about highlighting bigotry and repression. The utopia shown in the heroes book too is great framing device.
A screenshot from the game Metaphor: ReFantazio. We see the "Royal Virtues" menu, showing the virtues of Courage, Wisdom, Tolerance and Eloquence and Imagination, as a bar graph stylised to look like a crown atop the heroes silhouette. A screenshot from the game Metaphor ReFantazio. In the background is a handrawn sketch of various hands, of various shapes and colours, all stretching to something unseen in the centre of the image. A character called Heismay is speaking. "You cannot pretend at diversity without acknowledging individual differences. Some will be judged as strong, while others marked as weak."

Continue to make my way through Metaphor. I really love the social links in this compared to Persona 4 (haven't played P5). The shorter number of ranks allows to make each of them more meaningful, and the much lower number of followers means the game can put that much more time and focus on them.
Screenshot from the game Metaphor ReFantazio. We see a member of the Eugief tribe and an Elda, each with a cub in hand, giving a toast.

Having a great time with Metaphor. Just hit the third story dungeon, and the game is still doing new and interesting things. While the connections to Persona are clear enough, it ultimately borrows from all of Atlus prior titles and gives everything its own unique spin.

Having a lot of with with Space Marine 2. Manages to capture the spirit of the first game quite well, and it's still as satisfying as it was in 2011 to use a jump pack and launch yourself into a bunch of enemies from the air. Only thing I'm missing are the orks, perhaps.

Been making my way through Ys IX, and it's pretty neat, with good pacing and great music. I think it does not quite manage to hit the highs of Ys VIII, but that one was easily the best game in the series so far and probably one of the better JRPGs of all time, so it's kinda expected. #gaming #jrpg
Screenshot from the game Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, showing a character named Chatelard, looking into the camera with a determined expression and saying "No -- Gllia -- will finally be returned to its people".Screenshot from the game Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, showing a strange, rose-coloured beast -- named Moribihan -- inside a vase, with its head poking out and the lid on his head looking like a French Beret. Moribihan is seen saying "Magnifique! This will do nicely" (presumably in heavy French accent).Screenshot from the game Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, we see three characters in an indoor scene, from the left, an old man, wearing glasses with eyes closed and his hand on his chin as if in thought, a younger man wearing a red scarf and with dark hair, looking at him and a taller man, with blue hair, also eyes closed, looking pensive. The tall man, named Dogi, is seen saying"Primoridials, huh? It's like the Isle of Seiren all over again."Screenshot from the game Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, we see an outdoor scene in a very narrow city street, mostly dark, with a bit of sunlight coming through in the far end of the road. The playable character, a man with dark hair and a long red scarf, is standing in the middle of the screen. We see various UI items at the edges of the screenshot.
