update: we did not need a new fridge, the old one just needed a new thermostat, now replaced for a lot less $. WHEW. but it's unsettling how quiet the fridge is now. i keep thinking there's something wrong with it. IT IS FINE, i've been assured. how bad had been been if QUIET makes me think BROKEN

really relieved to notice that unlike when i was casually appliance browsing last year, i saw ZERO "smart fridges" with phone apps or internet connections or the like. i am relieved that trend seems to have died quick. i don't need my fridge to do anything other than be cold inside.

one time i couldn't find the rubber mallet, so i took off my sock, folded it over the thing i needed hammered in, and gave it a few good whacks with a wrench. to this day, it might be the single thing i've done that has most impressed my kid. it also cracks me up every time i remember doing it.

25 years ago today, we were hosting an exchange student. he went to school, and we were home on our day off having coffee and reading the paper. until our exchange student's girlfriend called from sweden, worried about him. so that's how we found out (they're married with two adorable kids now lol)

i was knitting a temperature scarf (daily color stripes based on temp) back in 2022. i recorded daily temps for the whole year, but never finished knitting. i do a day or two every few months before forgetting it again. only now i'm doing THIS WEEK from 4 years ago...

at least i think i figured out why my moon photos suck tonight... there's still a lot of thin cloud cover, so it's acting like a hazy filter my phone camera is failing to pierce properly. i shoulda got out the Good Camera. oh well, i'm sure everyone else got better pics for me to enjoy anyway :'D

re: earlier Cat Laws discourse, my personal preference in displaying their combed out fur to my cats is to remind them that if i'm coming it out, that only means they don't have to lick it off and then hock up furballs. i think we all agree this is preferable.
