I try to be as generous with my colleagues as I can but when librarians are using AI generated meeting minutes without proofreading them and dumping coworkers’ writing into ch*tg*t without consent I’m not sure how that can be reformed. the call is coming from inside the house.

to add to the neverending evidence that professional development in academia is untenable, to present at one conference and stay for two nights in order to travel there and back again, the expense is $2k that I would have to front half of before I can even apply for funding

Then the Haitians did it The Right Way. And now after Americans lured them here and practically begged them to come to Springfield — Springfield! — now they’re having Trump’s armed secret police inflicted on them, and being told they all need to go back to an incredibly dangerous place or else

Something else - and no, I’m not making an original point here — that endlessly infuriates me about the trump administration’s siege of Springfield Ohio is that the Haitians are there primarily because they were invited there, largely by local conservative political and business leaders…

The worst thing about getting beaten by the Lynx isn't the beating they put on you on the court, it's the fact that they do the Electric slide after they beat you. #wnba It's humiliating and you can't do anything about it 😬😬😬😬

on Sophie Cunningham and a trans controversy that doesn't involve any actual trans people: defector.com/the-right-ha...
This rhetoric is ideal for listeners who believe trans women are an issue that they're supposed to care about, but don't actually have any real-world experience with them. The hypothetical trans girl who's supposedly causing all this trouble in the WNBA is the perfect tool for the conservative movement. She can't fight back, she can't disprove anyone's assumptions, and she can't garner sympathy when she's the target of hate. The perfect trans girl is the one who only exists in the imagination of the loudest cis people. Her monstrousness, the need to "protect young girls in a locker room" from her, gives them permission to enact policies that in reality only harm the anonymous girls, cis and trans, who want to play sports without the invasive scrutiny of gender-obsessed adults.

Squishiness on trans rights is a dealbreaker for me because (a) it’s a straightforward issue of personal freedom and bodily autonomy much like abortion, and (b) the right is obviously coming after us cis gays next.

the thing about public libraries is that they are—or at least many of them are—the one unrestricted public space in which children are treated with something approaching full civic equality with all other people. And they sense that. Our children’s room is the liveliest space in our library. 📚
