Rare Book School: Because life is better with Bibliographical Intelligence.* *𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦.
A graphic with a white and black background features a detail from an illuminated medieval book of hours. The text block is in black ink with several illuminated initials and filler designs in red, blue, and gold. Along the left side of the text block, decorative vines and floral designs fill the margin. The RBS logo is in the upper left corner of the graphic, while white, red, and black text above and below the image reads, “Because life is better with Bibliographical Intelligence.* Bibliographical Intelligence is Beautiful. *Nothing artificial here. Taking part in a fac-staff book group this semester, and our read is Matthew Desmond's Poverty, By America. Banger biblical allusion from this week's chapter: "But the deregulation of the banking sector in the 1980s ushered the money changer back into the temple by removing strict usury limits."

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights** Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight.
From meteorologist Eric Snitil

**Lights Out Alert Sunday & Monday Nights**

"Heads up birders, I would not be surprised if the biggest bird migration night of the year happens over the next 2 nights. Birdcast is estimating 300-400 million birds will be in flight. That is a lot, but the pattern could not be better for migratory birds. A massive area of high pressure will turn the low level winds from the northeast to the southwest across most of the US. The last time we had anything similar to this in the fall was early October last year when a record 1.25 billion birds were in flight. I doubt we get to that level, but I suspect the number will top 500 million especially Monday night which looks to be the bigger of the two nights. You can help by turning off those outdoor lights on big migration nights, and the next 2 nights is about as big as it gets."

Unfortunately it’s a single antiphonal leaf…ostensibly bought ca. 1922 in Florence “from a dealer on the via Tornabuoni”. In talking with Liz Teviotdale, we think that it shows decorative similarities to the Met leaves attributed to the “Master of the Ricardian Lactantius.”

What a delightful surprise to come back to my desk after lunch & find a set of charming medieval-inspired prints by @miniaturewheats.bsky.social waiting there for me!
Four prints in black and green ink on white paper show various medieval designs: a hand holding a pair of eyes on a stem, a shocked-looking frog, a cat sitting beside an open book, and a snail-cat.

Have I found the single codex purportedly owned by the person whose collection I’ve been researching? Unfortunately no. Did I somehow in the same museum dig up a “ca. 1600” manuscript book of emblematic drawings that it turns out she also owned? YOU BETCHA I DID. Obsessed with her bookplate btw.
