I have just put the 4th load today through my dishwasher. I have also done a considerable amount of hand washing up. This house does not function well when I work five or six days in a week. (This week was five days, three of them very long ones.)

One of the less remarked-upon aspects of atheism is how it changes the way you see sunsets. If you believe in an omnipresent God, then sunsets are one of God's intentional creations, which means that the beautiful colors refracting through the darkling sky were *chosen* to produce that effect.
Two cross-sectioned anatomical drawings of men's heads revealing their brains, which have been filled with marching robots from old pulp magazines. Their stare at one another with raw, exposed anatomical drawing eyeballs, which radiate a halo of spiky lines. The background is a psychedelic, fractal-shot colored cloudscape.

"It had been known earlier to women." I love this understated line from the Online Etymology Dictionary, on the clitoris.
The anatomist Mateo Renaldo Colombo (1516-1559), professor at Padua, claimed
to have discovered it ('De re anatomica,"1559, p. 243). He called it amor Veneris, vel dulcedo "the love or sweetness of Venus." It had been known earlier to women.

This is fascinating. For many centuries, we’ve been told that the Parthenon was built with curves to avoid optical illusions. But Oxford mathematician Alain Goriely argues that there are no such illusions in the architecture. So the curves are there, but we don’t know why.

I’m sitting in my car in my driveway after getting home from work and I’m too tired and sore to face getting out of the car. Also, I think I might have broken a toe when I fell in the bathroom yesterday. Ok. I can do this, right? Being inside my house is a worthy goal. There’s tea in there.

Slipped and fell in my bathroom this morning as I stepped out of my shower. Do not recommend. No serious damage but everything aches and I’m going to be limping for a while. Had to cancel today’s shift with a client at very short notice, fortunately her mum was around to fill in for me.

Better than average way to spend a Monday morning.
Mim sitting in a lounge chair. She has faded purple and green hair, is wearing glasses and a red apple print dress and holds a cup of coffee. Sunlight is streaming in through the window beside her.View out the lounge room window showing the back of a wooden garden bench, some trees, a glimpse of the house opposite and brilliant blue sky.Sebastian is lying on Mim’s lap in the sunshine. He is a slim and sleek black cat. He has his face turned towards the sun coming through the window and his eyes closed.

We had Dad’s memorial gathering yesterday. Mum had originally estimated 60-80 people coming. There was about 150. My brother coerced me into speaking, apparently it was terribly important to him and his kids that I read out a poem written by my dad. It got a few laughs.

Here's an irony: the "gig economy" is a statistical black hole. Workers, customers and regulators know very little about the most basic aspects of it: how much workers get paid, for example, or much unpaid time on the clock a worker puts in before they get a job from the app. 1/

Dad’s second dialysis session yesterday also got cut short by a seizure. Today he is having another MRI to check for possible CSF leaks. His seizures got bad enough yesterday that the decision was made to sedate and intubate him, which needed to be done anyway to facilitate the MRI.

Tonight’s dinner was garlic prawns (cooked in olive oil and butter with chilli and parsley) with plenty of sourdough bread to mop up the buttery garlicky goodness. And some salad.
A small bowl of garlic prawns. Behind the bowl, out of focus are slices of sourdough bread, a bowl of Greek salad, and the cast iron pan the prawns were cooked in that still has quite a lot in it waiting to be served up.
