Having recently finished the wonderful Villager, I’ve just ordered a couple more of your books - this intriguing sounding novel, and some short stories.

My periodic plea to Smalltown Supersound and @boomkat.com to make the @deathprodofficial.bsky.social recommended Org. record available on download/cd, not just the sold out vinyl limited release. Music like this needs to be made more widely-available.

Yeah, this is a good one! I’ve always found his music fascinating but a bit hit or miss - when a record of his clicks with me I love it, but others leave me cold. Hugely enjoying this one though.

We have shifted large part of our front garden to an ‘allotment’ - it gets all the pm sun, and has proved to be a great way of meeting people too! Mix of raised beds, tubs, etc. Growing a fair bit of food, plus it’s attracted a lot of wildlife (try and include some water!)

Several of these are new to us this year, so don’t know how they taste yet! The Blaze (striped) one has been by far our most productive, and we’ve still got more to pick of those - but we’ve not tried them before. Lots of soup, curry, and roasted veg to cook this autumn!

Thanks for sharing these thoughts @bishopbarry.bsky.social - I miss my visits to Middlesbrough to work with your predecessor, but know just how special a place the town is as well as how tough things are. Has been sad to to see Middlesbrough in the news for such sad reasons recently.

A suggested statement for Andy Burnham.
‘The British public decided in the 1930s that they would not tolerate black-shirted militias marching through their streets. They would cherish robust political argument; they would not accept thuggery and intimidation. When Oswald Mosley led his Blackshirts to Cable Street, local people turned them back. A new law – introduced by a Liberal, backed by Labour and carried by a Conservative majority – banned private militias, political uniforms and ‘the use or display of physical force in promoting any political object’. The British people are as determined today as in the 1930s that they will not accept the methods of Mussolini and the Munich Beer Hall. This government will uphold the law and defend the traditions of British democracy’.

As a very basic thing, we as citizens should not accept the presence of a private army of masked racist thugs on the streets of our towns... intimidating others and threatening to overthrow the state... There are some fairly obvious precedents for this stuff.

How could an associate professor in divinity at Cambridge be expected to know that lying is bad? thecritic.co.uk/mone...
Ah yes, James Orr. A lot of us had been hazy about what it is exactly that associate professors in a divinity department do all day. It doesn’t seem to involve a lot of work: Orr is often to be seen at Reform events in London, which take up the whole morning even for those of us with offices down the road. Now we know he was also sipping cocktails while discussing ways in which wealthy foreigners might be able to get round the laws that ban them donating to the party.

The associate professor of divinity was filmed explaining to an undercover reporter that so long as everyone kept their mouths shut, there was no way that the authorities would ever find out. Orr spent four years as a postdoctoral fellow in theology, ethics and public life at Oxford, and it would be fascinating to know at what point he developed this theory of What the Electoral Commission Don’t Know Won’t Hurt Them. Perhaps he was off sick the day they opened the gospel of Luke: “What you have said in the dark will be h

Farage is obviously trying to stoke up race riots and exploiting a man’s murder to achieve that. Henry Nowak’s dad said outside court that he does not “want the murder used to create further hatred, division or tension. This is not about racism this is a case about murder." Farage doesn’t care.
