Those Meta ads fall somewhere between gaslighting and Orwellian. Meta is all about people like McDonalds is all about cows.

Bummed to hear about Duncan Sheik today. I interviewed him on his 27th birthday, back in November 1996. Very nice person and certainly a terrific musician. Fun fact: when Duncan was a college sophomore he played guitar for a duo called Liz and Lisa. The "Lisa" was Lisa Loeb!

60 years ago today (8/11/66), John Lennon sort of apologized for his statement, "We're more popular than Jesus." Some radio stations cancelled their bans of The Beatles after the apology, but not all of them. One station kept their ban for 4 years. This video explains all.. youtu.be/DmrBysiKDqs?...

If Bryan Adams released "Summer of '69" now but kept the distance from release to subject year the same, it would be called "Summer of '11."

In late winter, an ice chunk fell from the roof after some subzero days. The ice landed perfectly on the hose bib and destroyed the valve knob. I finally got around to replacing it today, much to my wife's delight for gardening purposes. Never had luck with plumbing stuff. Fingers crossed.

Sure, but even then, Scott Kannberg said in the Lolla oral history book that "I’m pretty sure that (the mudslinging) had been going on before us, when Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Jesus Lizard played." Pavement didn't ruin it. Clearly Metallica was the band that ruined Lollapalooza. No contest.

Strolled up to see some of the leading runners in the Pittsburgh Marathon. The number of people pulling up to the cop directing traffic at 5th and Penn desperate to find a way out of the loop we're in is amazing. This event happens. Every. Year.

Has anyone ever composed a covert avante-guarde symphony? One that sounds like a normal symphony for, like, 10 minutes but then it goes into a 5 second loop and repeats the loop for another 10 minutes?

If only Mr. Rogers was still with us, he could've come out to announce the Mr. Irrelevant pick of the NFL Draft and sang "You Are Special" to him. Wouldn't have been a dry eye in the house, not even among Eagles fans

Today I learned that in the Spanish dub of TERMINATOR 2 when Arnie says "Hasta la vista, baby" it is changed to "Sayonara baby" which has become as indelible in the Spaniard psyche as the original is in the Anglophone world.

Lou Reed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 8/1/1989.
Text reading: "That's what bothers me about a lot of groups I hear today," he says, citing Guns 'n' Roses as an example. "I actively despise that--the anti-woman stuff, the anti-gay stuff. It's so retrogressive. They think that's kind of a macho street stance, and all it is is Cro-Magnon. It really offends me. I mean, it REALLY offends me. These people are [expletive deleted] bigots."
