MoMA finally announced their Spielberg series for November/December, pairing five of his movies with fiilms that inspired them plus a JAWS (35 mm)/Duel 4K doubleheader. Alas, no E.T. in the mix — I'm two years since my last watch — and mostly DCPs across the board

Last repost: I was gonna say the Marjoe Gortner doc should be on Criterion, but Tubi is good too (this will almost certainly get me to check out Tubi). His most memorable role to me was as a disturbed grocery bagger/National Guardsman in Universal’s EARTHQUAKE

Marjoe Gortner was a truly fascinating person. Raised in the world of evangelical grift, in his 20s he fully and publicly rejected his past and became an actor. MARJOE (1972) is a must-see documentary - and it's currently on Tubi. tubitv.com/movies/31254...

This Oscar-winning documentary chronicles the story of a firebrand evangelical preacher who wholeheartedly and humorously exposes himself as a fraud.

I didn’t see enough of it to log a review, but my kids and some cousins watched Minions and my takeaways are a) I would push the Minions into traffic and b) the music budget on this thing was like $200 million? At least two original Beatles recordings, Donovan, The Kinks, a cover of “Eruption”?

I haven’t seen much commemoration today on here, but happy 25th anniversary to Achewood, one of the most influential works of art on the Internet and how we communicate on it. Please take advantage of the replies and quotes to share favorite strips or panels. Here’s one
Achewood panel of Ray Smuckles (right) looking at Teodor (left). Ray looks somewhat bemused, with raised eyebrows and an open mouth. Teodor looks critical.

Re: @hunterfelt.bsky.social’s astute post I just shared about Stevie: it’s wild how in 2022 they did a deluxe for Thriller’s 40th anniversary that was full of almost entirely half-formed nonsense that would’ve never made it to the LP in any form (and, almost, a remade cover that looked like shit)
Hauntingly bad originally announced cover for Thriller 40: same cover image but a weird redesigned artist/title name that replaced custom cursive-type lettering for a font from AdobeRedesigned cover: a silver slipcover with a die-cut “0” hole next to the “4” that exposes the original MJ portrait. Under that hole is the original LP artist/title lettering

The fact that they are great songs but also that one would be hard pressed to suggest he was wrong to leave them off the album at the expense of what made the cut speaks to how rare an album Songs In The Key Of Life is.

Today in “Facebook shit I’m seeing for reasons unclear.” I somehow don’t think you’re sincerely asking, page named “Skyfall is Rubbish”!
Facebook post by a page named “Skyfall is Rubbish” in a group called “For Bond Fans Only”:

Here's a question I can't get a straight answer to: How is Skyfall considered a masterpiece when its plot falls apart under any scrutiny? Silva's plan hinges on Q plugging in a laptop. The third act is a Home Alone siege at a childhood estate that never existed in Fleming's books. Therr is much more I can point to and reference. It's contrived, clunky, and nonsensical. If it's so great, someone please defend the plot point by point. I'm sincerely asking.
