I think John Sununu and Mike Rogers would win tie breakers vs. Hern based on previous Senate and House service on the Republican side (if they win of course).

My favorite academic email is when they announce a new person to replace the retiring person for a position and office you never knew existed.

This is really interesting. It is unclear when the winner of the Oklahoma Senate race will assume the office. share.google/IVnRhZx7MLdI...

Oklahoma Republicans Are at War Over Who Finishes Mullin’s Senate Term
The acting senator and the likely 2026 election winner both think the job is theirs until January.

I’m up here in Canada and someone asked where I was from. When I said Oklahoma they said they were jealous of our politics. It took all of my powers to not respond or ask a follow up.

I'm working on an assignment for class where students are allowed to use AI to predict all of the House and Senate elections and a five page summary. Any advice on the AI side to put in the assignment? At a minimum, I want them to turn in their prompts.

Had some fun trying to think about how to dramatize voters' choices in the 2024 election, so I pulled CES data and let you guess how respondents (validated voters) actually voted (or said they did) in 2024. profmusgrave.github.io/votergame2024/

When you wonder why there is a rock on the windowsill in the house but then you touch the rock and it turns out it is not a rock but a tree frog. Good times.

The Dolly Parton station is on and 9-5 comes on. I tell kiddo this song comes from a movie that says women can be the boss and are just as smart as men. Kiddo tells me that's right because boys go to Jupiter to get more stupider and girls go to college to get more knowledge. Can't argue with that.

Gentner Drummond is leading Mike Mazzei 53%-47% in the Oklahoma Gubernatorial election with just early and absentee votes reported. Mazzei is the Trump endorsed candidate. Drummond is distantly related to the Pioneer Woman!

When I lived in Athens, GA I was at a bar talking to some Australians. I asked why they came to Athens today and they said to meet Michael Stipe. Stipe and Peter Buck were at the other end of the bar. (Not the first, or the last, time I've told this story).

Fun hypothetical to think through. Beshear appoints a Democrat, the Senate refuses to seat the replacement. Replacement sues. Would the court support the refusal?

I was really sad to hear about Dave Rohde's passing. Dave was, of course, an incredible scholar. He was also a great advisor and so many of us owe him a debt of gratitude for helping launch our careers. When I'm puzzled by something, I'll often think to myself, what would Dave do. It usually helps.

My back of the envelop math says turnout was way down for the primary compared to 2018 (the last open primary for gov.) 630k voters for the SQ yesterday compared to 892k for medicinal marijuana. 575k voted for gubernatorial candidates in 2026 vs. 848k in 2018.
