Part 6 of my wool processing journey! I finally got around to #spinning my wool last night. This amount is about 2 rolags worth. With 25 altogether, I will get a good bit of yarn out of this 😁 Still practicing the consistency in the drafting thickness but I'm starting to get the hang of it. #wool

Part 5 of my wool processing journey! I got some time yesterday to card a portion of the wool that I finished picking through the day before. The carding really gets all those extra done bits out 😁 I got 15 rolags done, and I plan to finish creating the rest of the wool today. #wool #diy #textiles

Part 4 of my wool processing journey! I took 1 of 3 trays of wool and picked the smaller pieces of debris out while also breaking the clumps down into fibers. The 1st pic is what the clump looks like before picking, the 2nd one is after. The process took about 50 min to complete a tray. #wool #sheep

Part 1 of my wool processing journey! The first 4 images are showing off the raw wool that I started with. Next is the presoaked wool that I left overnight. Then I set aside some of the presoaked wool to dry so I could prime my brushes later (last image). The 3rd pic is the wool being washed. #wool

A large white bucket filled with cool water. The raw wool is placed in a mesh bag before being submerged into the water and left to soak overnight to help break up dirt.

A small white bucket filled with hot soapy water. Raw wool inside a mesh bag is placed in the water for 30 minutes to lift the lanolin, dirt, and vegetable matter from the wool. The wool I have was very dirty, so I had to complete 3 washes to finally see a colour difference.

Raw wool that was set aside to prime the hand carding brushes. This wool was presoaked overnight and then left to dry on a baking rack.

Top view of my first drop spindle. The whorl at the top is a clay disk that is glued to a wooden dowel. I painted the disk with several Posca paint markers and drew a few different patterns. The center ring is purple, followed by a thin ring of teal, then a thick ring of metallic gold. There is another ring of teal as the backdrop for the ring of purple flowers. Next, a ring made of alternating dots of metallic gold and teal with purple centers. A burgundy ring finishes the top of the whorl. Finally, the section that makes the outer edge of the whorl is painted in metallic gold. The wooden dowel has a gold cup hook that had been screwed into the top to catch the fibers during the spinning process.

Meet my little plant buddy. When I originally bought it, the energy it was giving off was "I'm kinda traumatized but I'm working through that and growing into a healthier version of myself" and I was like "hell yeah, I'm taking you home!"
