the game should put up a big banner that says “make Peter a Charioteer, it’ll be funny and he’s also ridiculously good at it” clicking charge and listening to him go “I hate this, I hate this” before deleting every enemy in sight

Milburn report pushed to after budget because there is no money for his recommendations. Defence spending pushed back too. Spending review is going to be a nightmare.

funny that I’ve seen quite a few Scottish Greens saying like “urgh, so annoying when the English party gets into trouble and people don’t know we’re separate” and then the Scottish Green leader dives in head first anyway

“her personal ratings have increased” ok but she has perhaps had less mainstream attention than any leader of the opposition two years in ever, stop outsourcing your thinking to poorly understood polls and focus groups and just see what’s in front of your eyes, she’s rubbish!

don’t know if this is so obvious it doesn’t get said or if people genuinely don’t realise, but: a key dividing line, possibly the key dividing line the Tories could put themselves on vs Reform is being serious. but Kemi is not serious

celeb traitors hot take: everyone thinks they’re going to murder Hannah because she’s sharp, but the celebs are more worried about looking respectable / playing “fair”, and therefore I think more likely to kill Jerry since it was her who got the two of them on the very short shortlist

They should recognise it’s not working well & needs some rebalancing and fixing of incentives, and if you do that alongside ending the triple lock you can probably even save a decent amount of money. But trying to make it “stricter” isn’t going to be the right frame to take any useful action.

Not attacking Duncan for saying this but I think to view the welfare system as generous/not very strict is a blind alley for the Tories. It is the way it is because of the combination of the desire to cut it and the desire not to have extreme destitution showing up in headlines and MPs’ surgeries.

There will never be enough quality candidates for a rightwing party if you make it a condition for entry that you sign up to a position that almost everyone earning above 70k disagrees with:

Polanski is fundamentally not up to the challenge of bridging the divide in the party because his entire model of politics is one where there’s an obvious good side and obvious bad side to every issue.

Aaaaannnndddd Zack is liking tweets telling people who oppose the Zionism is Racism motion 'sometimes things don't go your way' and 'to move on'. Right.

seems they’ve ended up with the worst of all worlds, the motion will pass strongly but with most MPs on record opposing it, because there was a total leadership vacuum for months. feel very bad for Jewish Green members and their friends and allies today

good to see the Green MPs coming out against the dodgy motion on Zionism that’s being voted on tomorrow, but, like, it’s being voted on tomorrow guys, where have you been

The predicted available margin on the (different) margin between an uncertain forecast and an arbitrary target five years hence is not a “fund” and is itself subject to substantial contingencies. Other than that, this seems fine.
Government figures see the fiscal buffer as a "contingency fund" against unexpected global shocks such as the Iran war, as Labour MPs warn against big tax rises now that risk choking off growth and alienating voters.

ep 2 ended on a cliffhanger to see who the first one banished would be, and the edit I would say implies that it will be the one who admitted it! first out was murdered by the traitors rather than banished by the group

Michael @michaeljsc.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
beyond my wildest dreams that you know who would be first out and in such a manner. high concentration of comedians very good for the laugh count. Hannah Fry is absolutely serving (unfortunately I fear too much & will get banished).

Labour have had about half a dozen opportunities to go “it’s tough times, we need to change tact from the manifesto we wrote in 2024”, and every single time they’ve opted for the shortest of short term gains. Governing like they only want one term while most of their policy platform requires two.

Not unlike the 2025 “everyone is anti-woke” now thing, it’s very easy to read an adverse election or referendum result as representing the resounding and enduring voice of the People. But we’re now a decade on and the People have noticed Brexit is shit!

I think there’s a cousin of this that implicitly starts from the principle that winning political consent to rejoin would be nigh impossible, and then backfills procedural difficulties to rejoining rather than say their worry is domestic politics.

oh agreed re: the equality act itself, I am not as convinced you need to abolish and replace the EHRC vs changing its mandate and appointing new people as needed (but you would absolutely know more than me)
110
Michael @michaeljsc.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
well those policies aren’t getting enacted unless they’re broadly acceptable to the 20% and 25% parties so they can’t be that extreme
100
Michael @michaeljsc.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
and like, what to do about the Home Office is harder - the EHRC is easy mode! people applying to work at the literal government centre of equalities are going to be pretty compliant most of the time, just need to make sure the Tory/Phillipson appointments get replaced with almost anyone else
030
Michael @michaeljsc.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
yeah I do agree, I just think “abolish” can turn into being a shortcut for actually thinking about what needs doing with a lot of these
120
Michael @michaeljsc.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I fear we (people on the internet) need to get over “abolish X”. obviously not to say there are no cases where it’s justified but the Tories were able to bend the EHRC to their will without public controversy by making ideologically aligned appointments, and so could any government that chooses

Michael @michaeljsc.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
but by definition it’s not disproportionate. (it’s a moot point anyway as FPTP will also throw up hung parliaments at our level of fragmentation, they will just be less closely linked to how people actually voted)

From a voter perspective it seems like a straight downgrade on AV to me: I still have to predict who’s likeliest to win or risk my vote not counting, which gets harder as our politics fragments. What’s the advantage - simpler to explain?

The BBC switching its local resources from radio to the website has been disastrous for the business model of local newspapers, but you have to balance that against how good it has been for 'the BBC's opponents' and 'random companies who now get a PR hit on the biggest news website in the UK'.
