I’m lukewarm on it as a slogan and think it’s fine for the BBC to have a general policy against political slogans on entertainment shows, but I’m soooo bored of these people claiming to speak for all women and painting their opponents as creepy men. the person who wore the t-shirt is a cis lesbian!

seems clear that whatever Polanski’s ambiguous feelings about the motion pre-passage, he now thinks critics should shut up and move on

thought this was a really good, clear paragraph that some other outlets could have learned from in how to cover the triple lock/social care fiscal implications

maybe this time doing slopulism on energy policy will work for a party of the left and not just poison the well and embolden calls to reverse on net zero

One neat trick for reconciling the two halves of Labour’s coalition: simply pretend your less preferred half has all the same priorities as your more preferred one!

Edinburgh council should make it a jailable offence to put cones on stuff. tragic yearning to be Glasgow when Edinburgh’s literally better

Can’t argue with their reasoning really but it’s a pretty sad sign about car dependence that the only way in to a shop is via the car park at the back.

they should study him in a lab. I don’t think I could write this badly on purpose. still, glad this has higher billing than coverage of last night’s far right escalation

You would not guess from what a lot of our leading politicians say that we have high debt and borrowing costs and struggling public services. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Right, I’ve had enough of this now. We’ve got left of centre governments in Scotland and the UK. Every public body needs to be off X and finding appropriate alternatives, right now.

I think it’s a good day for the fight against the EHRC guidance that we got this coverage in the Guardian, and I don’t think shouting at the journalist involved is going to make that any likelier in future

this is presumably not unrelated to the much better chain Tortilla having opened up in the same area a few years ago (although it always seems pretty quiet… I guess it does good trade on the delivery apps)

I’m afraid at a certain point this is just insulting the listener’s intelligence. if Israel is becoming a pariah state I think we can start the search for those responsible with Benjamin Netanyahu, not Ed Miliband

People on here loved the Zohran Mamdani thing of “look how unsubtly I can pivot any question back to the line I want to give” but I don’t know if that works when (a) the line you’re pivoting to isn’t that interesting and (b) you’re not a once-in-a-generation charismatic politician.

Worth reading the full comments from Labour’s culture convener about the festivals here. The overall picture I take away is of toxic complacency about the astonishing ongoing success of the festivals, and everything they contribute to our city. archive.ph/GUisG

I thought that BBC article was bad in a pretty typical way of BBC News online content nowadays: shallow and reductive, alluding to issues rather than analysing them. I think we should also say this sort of response is alarmist and actively unhelpful.
