If I ever have to go back to working in an office or anywhere else outside my little bitty house in the woods, I'm going to miss drinking hot coffee and then bursting into showtunes while I'm at my desk.

Did you know you only need a small brain to make silly little drawings?
4 panel comic:
Panel 1: pink blob guy on a table, pencil in their hands. Grey circle on a piece of paper and a glass of water on the table. They say “look here”
Panel 2: Proudly, they hold up the drawing of a grey blobby character on two stick legs up in the air. The pink blob says “I drew this!”
Panel 3: Satisfied they sit back down on the table. They now go “it’s not much, but..” The grey drawing looks a bit peeved because the drawer is calling it “not much”
Panel 4: But it’s okay, because now the pink blob is very pleased finally. He says “it came from my brain!” Holding the pencil up. The grey drawing blob is happy again, too. End well, all well!

I can’t emphasize this enough — “AI” wasn’t born corrupt and toxic. For ~75 years, it was mathematicians and scientists doing interesting, thoughtful work and trying to solve problems, making only the usual human mistakes. What “AI” did to machine learning is as tragic as what it did to artists.

The stupidest part of this is that we had some minor success with early weighted models and instead of asking “How can we make this work better on less powerful hardware?” we skipped right to “we should turn every atom in the solar system into comptronium!”

Harris Yulin for DS9's "Duet," the one where you spend most of the runtime trying to figure out if he's a war criminal or not. One of my favorite dramatic character studies/bottle episodes.

This is weaponized software, most effective against people who are already addicted or hopeless. When you build systems designed to prey on people for profit, you're beyond the imaginary ideal of an amoral market force. You're just goddamn evil.

Fucking insane. I can't even imagine anything (legal) they could do with all that data that would make it worth the money and effort to get it. If you just want to digitally whip your employee while they're working, there are options for that.

I've always loved this site, for its insight and coverage of smaller devices and companies. I marveled that it was just one person for so long. Google et al. decided that Liliputing and others weren't as worthy as an internet full of auto-generated slop.

What’s up with Liliputing? (Fall 2026 edition)
Long-time visitors to Liliputing may have noticed that we've been posting news articles less frequently and relying more heavily on news roundups consisting of short summaries or previews of interesting mobile tech news articles found around the web. Here's why. As I mentioned to Patreon subscribers in August, there are a few reasons for this shift, but basically it comes down to these two: Shifting dynamics of online search and advertising have made it much more difficult for independent bloggers and journalists to make a living through the mix of advertising, affiliate revenue, and donations that have allowed me to treat this mobile tech news and info website as my full-time job for much of the past two decades.

Every season of Reacher so far has been great, and I understand that they may be avoiding the earlier novels due to their slightly less standalone nature, but every year I'm sad to learn that next season won't be the book where he kills his way through a white supremacist militia camp.

My boomer mom lamented the price of gas, paused for a beat, then said it was Carter's fault because he didn't blow up Iran in the 1970s. It is, apparently, the fault of a dead guy who hasn't been in office in almost half a century. Not the cult leader who started a war this year for no reason.
