In the future, I hope it will be remembered why Elder Rasband's #ldsconf talk today uses such harsh language. It's not because it's right to use such words But he is speaking to members who really think that way about people who leave. He invites them to replace grief and fear with faith and love.

If we really want justice and equality in the United States, we'll need to keep fighting long after this election. Human rights abuses against migrants, Native Americans, and queer people did not begin in 2016, and they will not end until we enshrine their rights in the Constitution.

Deception becomes systemic when we use our collective power to protect what we desire to be true rather than face the destruction and the pain that accompanies the actual truth. Deception functions as a narcotic in protecting us from seeing or feeling that which is painful to us.

We often seem to want people who have suffered terrible things to just “get over it.” They cannot. Evil has a real impact and does real damage.

Twenty people
A four frame comic about getting twenty likes on a piece of art online. The first frame shows a smartphone screen with a comic posted on a social media platform. The text reads: "Aw man, only 20 people liked my new drawing...". The second frame shows the artist looking at their phone, sad. The text reads: "Twenty...". The third frame shows the artist looking up in thought, thinking "Twenty people...". In the fourth frame, the artist pictures themselves in an art gallery with their art displayed, surrounded by twenty people looking at it.

Sometimes civil rights movements and religions talk past each other, because civil rights movements seek equal power, while religions redefine power. In every era, religious nationalists exploit this by performing spiritual power while treasuring political power. #religion #christionnationalism

Lovely Ursula Le Guin. ❤️

A pedagogy that relies on the "Cliff Notes" sort of thing travesties the study of literature. To reduce the aesthetic value of a narrative to the ideas it expresses, to its "meaning," is a drastic impoverishment. The map is not the landscape.

If AIs develop sentience, everybody on BlueSky is gonna sound reaaaaally racist in a hundred years or so. Our grandchildren will ask, "Why did they hate AI, instead of the AI's corporate overlords?" I doubt the "We didn't think AIs were people" defense will help our case at all.

A crucial difference between conceptualizing faith as certainty versus sitting with uncertainty is this: Closeness depends on vulnerability, which we can only bear if we are willing to sit with, or endure, uncertainty.

It's actually kinda ableist to invoke the 25th Amendment as a means of removing a war criminal from office. Lack of ability—intellectual or otherwise—does not cause people to threaten war crimes, and Mr. Tr*mp has been expressing a willingness to commit war crimes for over a decade.

Reading a novel where the hero happens to save someone in a snowstorm, because he heard them cursing their god as they thought they were about to die. I'd usually call that a miracle ...and sometimes I think God really does give us miracles precisely when we challenge him, bringing him our anger.

How to become a witch

Move to the forest, befriend crows, be gay, do crime (cute face emoji)

Can princesses become witches?

Yes! You just need the help of a dragon to capture her and induct her into a coven. The capture is necessary, the king isn't going to let her otherwise.

This month, Republican leaders have (a) compared black political leaders to gorillas, (b) nullified trans folks' identification in Kansas, and now (c) proposed Darth Vader as a role model for getting rid of troublesome children. How much longer before we accept that the Republicans are now Nazis?
