As such, there are quotes from his talk that could aggravate religious trauma (especially his intro), but his point is very explicitly to *prevent* such trauma, to encourage the Saints *not* to be mean when trying to save others' souls. Love is not sour and judgmental. It is cheerful and welcoming.

In the future, I hope it will be remembered why Elder Rasband's #ldsconf talk today uses such harsh language. It's not because it's right to use such words But he is speaking to members who really think that way about people who leave. He invites them to replace grief and fear with faith and love.

I didn't hear anything about this in college, but I couldn't have. I graduated in 2014. Too early. Some scholars do use the terms pre/peri/post-menopause, but many just say "menopause" or "menopause transition" instead. So that may affect your search results. I'm just using scholar.google.com

Google Scholar
Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. Search across a wide variety of disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions.

This IS something being researched in the mental health community, especially in the last few years. The first major article I see on the subject was published in 2014, but since then, we've had a lot of good studies on it. Such as... www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

The risk curve is less clear in men. More ups and downs from year to year. Whereas women have a clear, but small peak around age 53. (Graphic from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention)

For a long time, I was a "both sides are good" centrist who would run defense for both sides, trying to get them to listen to each other. But the last ten years of US politics have made it harder and harder

There's supposed to be three different labels, suggestive vs nudity vs adult/porn. But it's not always clear which label has been attached to an image.

That depends, was Luna dealing with big feelings mostly by dissociating? Adderall changes how focus and attention work, so the "don't think about it" systems are all recalibrating now

Imagine being a poltergeist but every time you cause trouble the silly mortals are like "A sign! God is speaking to us!" Like they specifically took that job to get OUT of heaven and AWAY from God, and now people STILL think they work for Him? Bruh

From a psychology perspective, both religious community and LGBTQIA2+ acceptance are positive forces on mental health. The problem is when moralistic dogmatism asks people to choose one or the other. 💔 Some of us see both as important parts of who we are, and cannot chose just one.

Well, that argument is going beyond the scope of the hill I'm standing on here. Transparency should be celebrated and rewarded, even if it reveals problems, as long as there is a real effort to solve the problem. I'm not prepared to argue that a Taco Bell diet is healthy hahaha. 😅

I mean I reached that point at 13. But I think no matter what age you reach it, whether 18 or 80, it is worth celebrating!

Sometimes the brilliance of human thought comes from being nonlinear. One comment can trigger a whole landslide of expression well beyond the comment's actual scope, which might not have existed otherwise. ...which highlights one of the problems with AI, as a shortcut for that thought.

Michael Reed Davison @michael481.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
This is actually an argument FOR the Taco Bell principle, because transparency is a basic thing we want to be able to trust people to practice, therefore we should not punish it. Same as when a "lazy" person finally contributes to household chores, but gets criticized for helping

If our sense of truth is based in dogma rather than data, we are liable to see everyone who disagrees with our dogma as a liar and an antiChrist. (But Korihor was someone who had seen an angel and THEN went around telling people things he knew were false. Is Blake accusing them of that??)

I mean there's also public Department of Corrections facilities. Why not just open those to the public instead?? Hmm, actually, maybe we should make our jail/prison facilities a place where people would want to walk their dogs there. The kind of place that heals the soul.

Historically, Jesus being executed is one of the few facts of his life that scholars have found evidence for, outside the Bible. But the Bible narrative fits your claim. The Gospel authors wrote that the Romans killed Jesus because of the jealousy of other monotheists, to prevent civil unrest

Christian Nationalism looks like seeing Jesus being executed by Romans in broad daylight and saying, “he should have just obeyed the law.”

Nice!! I'll have to read it when it's done!! It also makes better sense of some phrases in Alma 12:24 and Alma 42. "there was a space granted unto man in which he might repent; therefore this life became a probationary state" That sounds like a suspended sentence, not just a natural consequence 🧐

Did you write something on here about him developing a doctrine of clemency or postponed enforcement of law, to explain why the Church allows divorce? It occurs to me that that doctrine provides a much more natural reading of the Garden of Eden story & why Adam and Eve didn't physically die...

Sometimes it's tempting to use racial prejudice as a good/evil litmus test, a sort of rehashing of harsh heaven/hell rhetoric, in which liberals merit heaven and racists hell. But today's LDS Church is trying to treat racism more like psychology does: a harmful but fixable mistake anyone can make.

There's been some recent research that *implicit* growth mindset is a better predictor of learning than *explicitly* agreeing with the idea. Harder to teach directly But yeah, if I actually believe I can learn, that's more motivating than chanting "I have a growth mindset!!" Or whatever

Microsoft adopted the idea but didn't invent it. They seem to be using it in a way that is very much like a performative, hypocritical religion, talking loudly about how important growth mindset is but not measuring it carefully and using it as an excuse to fire "low performers"
