This is the way to rule the people. Did you see how that chicken followed me for food, even though I had caused it such torture? People are like that chicken. If you inflict inordinate pain on them they will follow you for food the rest of their lives. Joseph Stalin

Some of us served in Vietnam, or the Gulf War, or the Global War on Terror. We’ve been through it — and we got through it together. It’s more important than ever that we stick up for ourselves, for our communities, and for what’s right.

When they talk about privatizing Veterans’ care and Medicare, they mean allowing companies to provide healthcare for a profit. But how do companies make those profits? By *denying* care to many who need it. Don’t get fooled by the “privatization” label. It means “for profit” and YOU are the cost.

The state denying bodily autonomy for about half the population, restricting their movement, installing a comprehensive system of surveillance, and making it impossible for them to participate in the political process as equal citizens - that very much sounds like a democracy issue, doesn’t it?

Since Dobbs, a standard line among “respectable” conservative voices - like Ross Douthat at the NYT - has been to denounce the “partisan” conflation of threats to democracy and abortion rights. But criminalizing abortion inevitably reduces half the population to second-class citizens.

good lord some people should not be allowed to have statistics software 1500 statistical tests without adjustment for multiple comparisons to find that recipients of live attenuated influenza vaccines are more likely to experience ... bedwetting For those who may not be aware of why this is bad:🧵
As mentioned above, clinically remarkable wheezing was found in those younger than 24 months who received LAIV.25 Furthermore, a post hoc subgroup analysis of a study randomizing 9689 healthy children (1-17 years) found that children aged 18 to 35 months receiving LAIV were 4 times more likely than placebo recipients to have an office visit coded as being due to asthma in the 42 days after vaccination.32 However, this result was not statistically significant at the 95% confidence limit, and the design of the study had several serious flaws.

highlighted part: More than 1500 statistical tests were performed without adjusting for multiple comparisons, leading to the implausible conclusion that recipients of LAIV were more likely to experience 24 types of adverse events (including warts and enuresis) and less likely to experience 51 other types of adverse events (including trauma and constipation).
