One of my favorite tarantula species--phormictopus auratus--right after a molt. She's a sassy lady, always investigating and making a mess, but she's absolutely gorgeous!

I found this recluse a year and a half ago in my house and held on to her to release her in the summer. I forgot to do that so I overwintered her again. Now she's a part of the family, so I guess she's yet another foster fail. (Yep, she's missing two legs. I found her that way.) #spider

This photo shows the missing leg socket, the violin shape, the characteristic 6 eyes arranged in a row around the front of her carapace and a fat, fat abdomen because she's a healthy eater. I have a plant manager who sets up meetings to discuss ideas and then forgets to attend the meetings. In other words, I have a free hour right now! Gonna feed some spiders while "waiting" for her to remember. Here's a picture of my phormictopus sp. South Hispaniola's tiny tarantula Mohawk.

I was just talking to a newly emerged black soldier fly (as one does), while transfering them to the breeding container. "Hey there! welcome to fly mode! Would you like to go into the fly chamber to have some amazing fly sex?" I didn't know my daughter had friends over. (Yes, she has a therapist.)

I've been feeling too sick the last few years to properly garden, but my lovely daughter came over and planted! Volunteers from years past are sage, oregano, rue, chives, fennel and, of course, a load of mint. She's added basil, cilantro, serranos, habeneros, tomatoes and eggplant. Luckiest mom!

A tiny reddish brown fuzzy tarantula with a nice big cephlothorax and a tiny abdomen seen from the side. They are holding a roach meal in their fangs and pedipalps. They are lifted off the ground very high to keep their prey from getting away. They rest on a sheet of webbing they've laid down over dirt, moss and leaves. A pretty little harpactira pulchripes juvenile tarantula on the run (well, the fast walk) as I take their picture. I'm pretty sure this is a male but I haven't been arsed to actually check.

It's a beautiful day outside, all the spiders, tortoises, snakes and cats are fed, I have enough iron in my oft-anemic blood to create about 12 or 13 hefty hemoglobins and I'm waiting for my grandson to come over and work on his coding project. Concentrating on the good atm.

This is a freshly molted psalmopoeus ecclesiasticus. She is smooshed down to about half her normal size because I am taking a photo. I am taking a photo because she is never out and had to strike while the iron was hot. She eventually walked off and then I gave her a hornworm. #tarantula

Phormictopus sp. south hispaniola, adult female. Her carapace has highlights of pink and maroon and her femurs show off blue green, depending on the angle of the light. In this photo I captured just a hint of both.

I have chronic anemia so I take iron supplements. Went to doc, saying, hey, symptoms are worse despite taking supplements. Doc orders tests. Tests comes back. I'm anemic as heck. Duh. Doc calls and says I should take iron supplements.

They kind of look folded up. The spider has three sets of two eyes in a row and a rather rough looking face. Her violin shape isn't super distinctive on her head, but you can make it out.
