My AI seems to be more intelligent than Trump's experts, anyway.

Reterming artificial intelligence as superintelligence would be conceptually inaccurate because the two terms describe different things: one refers to the origin of the intelligence, while the other refers to its level of capability. Artificial intelligence is a broad umbrella term for any machine-based system that can perform tasks typically requiring human cognition. This includes everything from a simple chess program or a spam filter to modern large language models. Most of these systems are categorized as narrow AI because they excel at specific tasks but lack general-purpose reasoning.

Superintelligence, by contrast, is a specific theoretical threshold where an AI surpasses all human capabilities across every single domain, including creativity, social skills, and scientific reasoning. Calling current AI superintelligence would be a category error, as existing models still struggle with consistency, factual accuracy, and autonomous planning in ways that humans do not. While a model might be super-human at processing vast amounts of data or generating text quickly, it does not possess the general, cross-domain mastery required to be termed a superintelligence.

Furthermore, the term artificial describes the nature of the entity—that it is synthetic rather than biological. Even if a system became superintelligent, it would still be artificial. Using superintelligence as a replacement for AI would erase the distinction between the tools we have now and the theoretical entities that might exist in the future, making it harder to discuss the actual risks and capabilities of current technology.
