I would liken the current American vibe to being a passenger on the titanic and being informed over the PA not to worry because the crew has finished feeding the life boats into the furnace so we can find more icebergs to ram.

I think a key part of Silent Hill 2’s enduring cultural legacy is that it the setting of the game is explicitly symbolic in a way that invites people who never engaged in literary analysis to try it.

[as if we've all been talking about this topic before this moment] I think I mostly just dislike that movie Mario is sometimes kind of a mean little cunt for no reason, when he was mocking Bowser's art and attempts at rehabilitation I just felt like "hey. he wouldn't do that"

All it would take for Nintendo to ruin me financially is to make a Super Mario TCG where all of the tertiary side characters from forgotten/bad games get new bespoke artwork. The more forgotten and one off they are, the more badly I would want the cards

The best part of being an artist is that you can just draw whatever dumb idea comes to your head at 1am

A scene parodying the Neon Genesis Evangelion scene of Asuka and her Eva unit getting pierced by the spear of longinus. In this scene, Linguini and Remy from Pixar's Ratatouille take the place of the EVA unit and Asuka respectively. Linguinis eye is pierced by a fork version of the spear and Remy is depicted in an inset where he is grabbing his eye and screaming like the anime. There are anime subtitles at the bottom that say "AHHHHHHHHH!"

I finished Dragon Quest 1 2D-HD last night. I’m a big fan of the original NES version for being a concise, breezy adventure. This remake adds so much plot and structure that it feels way more like a modern title. Which feels like gilding the lily. But it has value as a distinct version.

Mistreatment of labor comes from the same place as mistreatment of the environment. Short term incentive over sustainability. If you don’t care about ensuring the world remains livable, it follows you have little regard for the people who need to live in it.

Nobuo Uematsu made a lot of amazing music, but the vast majority of time he was tasked with composing a theme for a female party member he leaned really hard on a wistful tone. Just trying to land somewhere between pleasant and bittersweet. Freya and Lulu might be the strongest exceptions.

The trope of the afterlife functioning as a divine bureaucracy, or corporate office job, comes from the same place as medieval writers describing heaven and hell in terms of feudal hierarchy: projecting the social structure the author is familiar with in their life onto the spiritual world.
