That $366 million Elon is spending to try and convince voters that Congress should stay Republican? It's more money than McCain's 2008 campaign spent. But it's also, relative to Musk's net worth, the same as a household at the median income spending $32.

The 2026 question: Which is more powerful, money or people?
Elon Musk has spent $366 million this election cycle. Philip Bump examines what that kind of money can buy in American politics.

Is there a cleverer way that Ukraine could have hit back at Trump doing a dirty oil deal with Putin to help him with gas prices in the midterms than turning off the army of Russian propagandists posing as heartland Americans with concerns about trans socialists?

It is remarkable how many Dems in competitive races are not doing the squishy bipartisanship tapioca routine and are instead just letting rip with these guys are a bunch of evil goddamned nazis who want to take all your rights and are also corrupt as fuck. It’s reading the room, I suppose.

This point is 100% accurate. I’ll add the observation that so much of the GOP scam on their supporters is rooted in the notion of “fairness,” as in DEI isn’t fair to me, a hard working red blooded conservative. This is a much tougher sell when DSA socialism sounds fairer to their base.

What I can't get over is the Dems out there trying to transphobia their way out of these numbers. Just out there riding the crest of the wave, doing morally unsupportable pandering to bigotry at a time when it is also strategically foolish, just for love of the capitulation game.

I hate this kind of thing, because just beneath its surface is a smug piety that treats "politics" as nothing but mess and rancor rather than as something with a direct connection to people's lives, and argues for being "above politics" as a kind of virtue. It's so dishonest. Anyway, good morning.

The DSA's mission is to replace capitalism with democratic socialism by shifting economic and political power from corporations and wealthy owners to workers and the public.

Officers shooting a man, running away from law enforcement, who is not a target of law enforcement, and who poses no threat to law enforcement, is murder. Federal officers do not have the power to commit summary executions because they are aggrieved.
