A meme pairing a news article with the "reaction guys" format. Top left: a screenshot of an article with a headline "Trahan unveils AI liability discussion draft" and the subhead "The legislation comes after multiple incidents of AI models going rogue." The text says Rep. Lori Trahan unveiled a draft bill on Wednesday that would make AI developers liable when their products cause harm. Top right: four young men in a dark room lean forward, pointing and cheering with fists raised. Bottom left: another excerpt explains the bill would stop developers from arguing their AI systems can't have intent; instead, highlighted in blue, courts "would presume an AI system acted with the state of mind a person taking the same actions would have had." Bottom right: the same group of men now sit still, staring ahead with serious, unsettled expressions, as the cheering gives way to disappointment.

“Super intelligence” is so transparently nonsense that I bet it will force people to say what they mean: LLMs, agentic systems, etc. and actually spur a move away from the term “intelligence,” which was never more than marketing hype

it seems fitting that it's a riff on a thing about LOTR from 2019.
Tweet asking where The Lord of the Rings should use its one PG-13 F-bomb, with a still of a smirking Frodo captioned "All right, then. Fuck your secrets," a twist on his line "Keep your secrets."

there are all kinds of places AI should not be shoved in--typically, the places edtech and university admins most want to shove it. but "lol we'll just take the computers away problem solved" is so superficial that i can't believe it was published.

Mel Stanfill @melstanfill.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
students absolutely need to spend time reading difficult texts (assuming anybody taught them to read in K-12, and not just three-cueing). writing, absolutely, is thinking. i believe in all of that as much as i also believe technological tools can let us do new cool stuff on top of that foundation.
111
Mel Stanfill @melstanfill.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
but this? "Allow professors to require students to spend the time they are nominally already required to dedicate to the course outside the classroom in tech-free reading rooms; shut down the WiFi; scramble the cell signal; send them to weeklong retreats in the deep, dark woods." is just stupid
110
Mel Stanfill @melstanfill.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
AI lets you do a thing faster, or less labor-intensive, or otherwise extending abilities that already exist. people have to have the foundations, at the same time that learning those foundations is where students want to take shortcuts. it's a hard problem to solve.

Mel Stanfill @melstanfill.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
i think AI should not be taught in K-8, and i'd rather make that K-12 except that then the students who don't go to college are unprepared for the way this technology is reshaping the world in the current moment. even lower division undergrad, it's rarely a good idea.

Mel Stanfill @melstanfill.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
i 100% agree with the premise that people need to be able to think, read, and write without AI, both as a moral imperative and in the practical sense that people can't use anything that builds on a foundation without having a foundation. but that's not what this article actually says.
