so that thing you feel in your throat and your heart and your stomach when you watch the news, when you see miscarriages of justice, when you feel rage about systemic violence, when you worry about the climate crisis, when you aren't sure what the future holds — that's grief, friend.

Last year, a new favorite musician had a show in town the day I got back from a trip, and I was bummed I couldn't go. I just found out that show was postponed and the artist did a free pop-up show in a local park two days later. I could have gone! If I'd known! I am retroactively sad. Delayed FOMO.

One of my phone games is doing Labor Day events except its just... America Day. Truly, nothing screams America louder than slapping a bunch of red, white, and blue on everything and saying "We're not celebrating Labor, we're celebrating AMERICA!" I am in Canada. We also have Labor Day today.

Everything going on in the world is too much for any one person to fix, but if we all start somewhere and do what we can, we can make a difference! If you're looking for somewhere to start and guidance on how, can I recommend @tbfighters.org? The lessons I've learned from them apply to many things!

The powerful forces trying to dominate our country want us to fall into cynicism. That way, they win everything — and they'll be able to take it all without the rest of us putting up a fight. If you are worried about the future, you are not alone. I am too. But please do not fall into cynicism.

I've never seen such an effort to censor a document as I have the Amnesty International report on gender critical groups because of JK Rowling. They removed the report from the Wayback Machine and now I got a DMCA strike on my Google Drive for having it. It was deleted and removed from my account.
A screenshot of an email viewed in dark mode with the subject line "Google DMCA Violation." The email from Google informs the recipient that they have received a notification under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that some of their materials allegedly infringe on copyrights. It explains the removal process, mentions that notice details will be posted on Lumen, warns against repeated violations, and lists one affected Google Drive URL at the bottomA nearly identical mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. It shows a search for the same Amnesty International UK resources URL, resulting in the same message: "This URL has been excluded from the Wayback Machine."A mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Have another reminder that Twitch has forced generative AI training on everyone's streams, and that you should opt out even if you don't stream because Twitch needs to see that the collective response is overwhelmingly negative. (The link Zach included has the opt out at the very bottom!)

I was a contractor for a company that had a contract with $SearchCompany. $SearchCompany claimed we weren't their employees bc they hired another company to do the work. $SearchCompany still set the terms under which the contractors worked.

Without tips, Uber Eats delivery barely covers the cost of gas. Here in BC, there's a mandatory minimum wage for delivery drivers, but they've still figured out every way to minimize what they pay. We can and should find more ways to make sure they're paying their drivers an actual livable wage.
