Watching Broadchurch for the first time. Why didn't you tell me how good it was? It's got EVERYONE. Two Doctors Who, the gay one from Bridgerton, the cute but wooden one from HTGAWM, Olivia fucking COLEMAN? Only on S1E1 and cried three times already.

Just sobbed my way through the last half of Rental Family. What a beautiful meditation on connection, belonging, grief, preciousness, loss and community. Made me miss my Mum and want to find happiness in the life I'm actually living, as well touching a longing for another, warmer world.

It's really weird to demand accountability from a NYC mayoral candidate for a deadly NYC shooting rather than the current NYC mayor, an ex-cop who campaigned on a "tough on crime" platform and promptly got indicted for crimes
Wall Street Journal headline and deck: "New York Shooting Puts Mamdani on the Spot Over Policing Views: The killing of four people in a Midtown office building rattled a city where mass attacks are rare and violent crime has declined."

Dersh has been banging this drum since Trump1 & the really good news is: ostracism works, even on the shameless. Tons of people miss this--the shameless are hyper-sensitive to stigma. Civil society should use this free, non-violent tool to punish destructive people a lot more often. It works.

One thing this world is showing me is that my peace, my joy, my comfort, my determination cannot depend on external events. It has to come from 'inside', from connection to something greater. These tears are from letting go of a world that can ever be carefree. But beauty, warmth, love persist.

Hope in this deep & powerful sense is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously headed for early success, but...an ability to work for something because it is good, not because it stands a chance to succeed. - V. Havel (tr. P. Wilson)
The kind of hope I often think about (especially in situations that are particularly hopeless, like prison) I understand above all as a state of mind, not a state of the world. Either we have hope within us or we don't; it's a dimension of the soul; it's not essentially dependent on some particular observation of the world or estimate of the situation. Hope is not prognostication. It is an orientation of the spirit, an orientation of the heart; it transcends the world that is immediately experienced, and is anchored somewhere beyond its horizons.

Vaclav Havel (tr. Paul Wilson), from Disturbing the Peace: A Conversation with Karel Hvizdala, published by Vintage Books

This has blown my MIND. #Breadsky did y'all know about this?
Wiki screenshot:

Ciabatta bread was first produced in 1982,[2][3] by Arnaldo Cavallari, who called the bread ciabatta polesana after Polesine, the area he lived in. The recipe was subsequently licensed by Cavallari's company, Molini Adriesi, to bakers in 11 countries by 1999. Cavallari and other bakers in Italy were concerned by the popularity of sandwiches made from baguettes imported from France,[2][3] which were endangering their businesses, and so set about trying to create an Italian alternative with which to make sandwiches.[2][3] The recipe for ciabatta came about after several weeks of trying variations of traditional bread recipes and consists of a soft, wet dough made with high gluten flour.[4]

Adoption is an alternative to parenting, not to pregnancy. Abortion is an alternative to pregnancy. People need to understand the difference. Pregnancy is not a health neutral state. It can cause serious harm. No one should be forced to remain pregnant who doesn’t want to be.

For as long as democracies exist, white supremacists running for office should be asked the following: “what’s the magic number of white babies that you want the average white woman to breed for you to restore white dominance? Please be specific - is it 5.4? 6.3? 7.2?” We should insist on a figure.

I decided to dig up the front patch of grass in front of our rental and turn it into a 'wildflower meadow'. Took me about a month to do what with one thing and another. At the end of April it looked like this, and remained looking like this for QUITE a while.
