The Trump administration had a problem; most immigrants show up for their court hearings and fight their cases. That's bad for the Trump admin, which wants to rapidly generate removal orders. Enter "mega masters" — rescheduling hearings for days later with no notice but a letter in the mail.

In June, for the first time since 2019, more people were found to have missed court in Chicago than showed up, according to data released by the Executive Office of Immigration Review — immigration court’s formal name.

Before June, more immigrants were attending court hearings than skipping them. Since the Trump administration started "mega master" mass immigration hearings in May, the number of people failing to attend has nearly doubled.
