And also bears repeating you can like a politician as a person, respect them, and have no ill feelings towards them but disagree with their positions and votes. That’s how democracy works and honestly we could use a lot more of that across the board in our society overall.

I’m so angry. I can’t imagine how her friends and family must feel. To work your whole life for safe streets and then to be murdered by a car while riding your bike. Rest in power. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/07/09/m...

UPDATE: Per OCPF, Josh Kraft has received $566,520 in contributions, of which only $2,191 are from Boston residents contributing $100 or less. The total number of Bostonians contributing $100 or less remains at only 26 residents. Repeat: Twenty-six. The story tells itself.

Bostonians, if you're worried about how the MA Senate is going to cause your rent bill to go up because of their inaction on Boston's tax shift home rule, don't fret: they voted to give you a $50 tax cut for your rent bill for the entire year. And if you're a dead rich person, you'll get $99,600.

Time is never as relative as when trying to make a bus connection. When you’re not there yet 6 minutes feels like nothing; it will pass in mere seconds and you’ll surely miss the bus. If you’re waiting at the bus stop 6 minutes feels like an eternity.

I don’t purport to be a budget expert, but this is worrying. I also find the timing – a mere 3 months after the legislature and Governor gave substantial tax cuts to investors and wealthy estates – risible. While they were cutting taxes they were warning about fiscal storm clouds!

Twitter post by Melanie D'Arrigo (@DarrigoMelanie) depicting Kermit as Bob Cratchit from "Muppet Christmas Carol".

Text:
"In A Christmas Carol, Scrooge pays Bob Crachit 15 shillings per week, and is visited by 4 ghosts because his greed is so immoral.

That story is from the 1840s.

Adjusted for inflation, that's $18.70/hr today.

Every state's minimum wage is less than what Scrooge paid Crachit."

This reversal of Mayor Wu's previous stance as a city councilor and as a mayoral candidate is wrong. The BRIC and gang database are based on racist profiling and surveillance, and do not keep Bostonians safe. Contrary to the mayor's claim, there is no meaningful accountability within the BPD.

Congrats to Progressive WRox/Roz City Council endorsees!
Ricardo Arroyo is a true progressive policy leader for justice, whether he’s fighting for justice related to economics, health, public safety, food, democracy, or the environment. His first act as Councilor identified racism as a public health crisis, which expanded funds to key services. He has since secured millions for a Community Health Center in Hyde Park. He is leading the effort to protect workers from wage theft and has pressed for transparency in banking practices around foreclosure prevention and mortgage and small business lending. He introduced legislation to protect the City’s tree canopy and to establish a food recovery program to reduce waste and increase access to food – each first-of-its-kind legislation. He authored home rule petitions on same-day voter registration and municipal mail-in ballots and championed the Mayor’s rent stabilization and tenant protections proposal. When The Pryde was vandalized, he acted with urgency to pass a resolution denouncing anti-LGBTQ+Julia Mejia consistently shows creativity and courage as she works to improve the lives of people city government has too often not served well, and shows how crucial diverse representation is. As a child, Julia translated for her mother and neighbors; as a Councilor, she initiated and passed a law to provide city services in more languages. Her residential kitchens law allows people to start businesses at home, offering entrepreneurship to more community members.

Julia initiated an array of services during the pandemic including pop-up vaccine clinics in hair salons and barbershops, an elder food program, weekly youth-led mental health check-ins, and a bodega project so people could use vouchers to buy culturally relevant food. Additionally, Julia’s office has worked to demystify government with a steady flow of infographics on governance and the City’s budget, and has engaged a wide array of community voices in policy development. Her commitment to accessibility, service, and civicRuthzee Louijeune, the first Haitian American on Boston City Council, had a busy first term. She has lived up to her commitment to address the city’s most pressing issues, with a particular emphasis on working to improve the lives of those in the BIPOC and disadvantaged communities, including expanding funding for new immigrants’ shelter and legal needs. Her top priorities continue to include increasing affordable housing, improving educational opportunities for all students and supporting educators, and fighting for racial and environmental justice from opposing the East Boston Substation to supporting beekeeping.

Ruthzee has been a driving force on issues of rental protections including securing additional funding for housing vouchers, climate and energy use, post-prison reentry and housing, and community involvement. Her work assisting immigrants, protecting LBGTQ+ rights, and fighting against discrimination, make Boston a better place for everyone.Henry Santana, based on his life experiences, conveys the urgency of housing access, tenant protections, and climate issues, knows deeply the obstacles that immigrants face, and has experienced how positive youth development programs altered his life. We’re impressed with Henry’s priorities and policy ideas in all of these areas. Henry immigrated to Boston as a child, grew up in Mission Hill in public housing, is a first-generation college grad, and will bring representation to the Council from all of those experiences. Further, he has experience in getting things done in Boston government as Councilor Kenzie Bok’s neighborhood liaison and the City’s first Director of the Office of Civic Organizing.
