What’s the evidence on rent control? I charted the findings from 112 studies: Great for rent-controlled tenants ✅ But: Pushes up rents for other people ❌ Pushes down new housing construction ❌ Pushes down building quality ❌

Just want to add that if someone is too elderly to use an ebike, they’re probably too elderly to be driving a car. There’s a bus stop! We should be funding bike and mass transit infrastructure for precisely these reasons.

Rennes, France will increase frequencies on its Metro A Line to every 60 seconds (down from every 80 seconds), perhaps making it the most frequent metro in the world. The automated light metro line has 140,000 daily riders, in a city with a population of 230,000 (Line B carries ~80,000/day).

The air feels heavy — not just with humidity, but with memory. We remember Pulse. We remember the laughter, the music, the light that was stolen, and the love that refused to die. May we keep building a world where joy is never punished, and where every soul can dance without fear.

Buttigieg: Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that there have to be nine Supreme Court justices. That one doesn't even take a constitutional amendment. It just takes a readiness to set up a court that fits this country.

4 panel comic

an alien holds a camera and says "what the fuck is this"

i hold a camera and a computer chip and respond "so basically we just capture light through a mechanical facsimile of an eyeball and create a binary sequence of numbers representing the light impression thats then stored in this intricate piece of gold, copper and other junk that conducts lightning in a way that it ‘remembers’ the binary code"

the alien looks back at me with confusion

it says "and you guys still kill each other over borders?"

i say "its usually for oil but yeah"

Heat pumps are the most efficient heating technology ever invented. They harvest and compress pre existing heat in the air, ground or water and transport it where it is needed. That energy is all around us. And it does not have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

“It is the result of state laws that limit local control and sideline community input.” And yet, before those state laws were enacted, “local control” and “community input” led us to *checks notes* ah yes, a horrendous housing and affordability crisis.

The elected officials in the City of Los Angeles never fail to disappoint. The lengths they'll go to stop denser and more affordable housing near transit is beyond me. If you build transit, you need to build dense housing around it.
