📣 New preprint: Multiple Nested Distributed Language Networks in the Human Brain. 📣 Brain regions specialized for language have been extensively described. But are they organized into one network, or multiple? Our new preprint provides evidence for the latter:

New preprint ! Poor sleep is correlated with accelerated aging. But is this relationship causal? We’re not so sure. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6...

Use of brain age models frequently lead to wrong conclusions - unfortunately it is not easy to fix. Fortunately, there are better alternatives. @edvardg.bsky.social @fmrib-steve.bsky.social @didacvp.bsky.social @maxwellelliott.bsky.social @k.b.walhovd www.medrxiv.org/content/10.6...

Reconsidering Brain Age: Why Age-Prediction Models Fail as Measures of Brain Aging
Brain age models - machine-learning predictions of chronological age from brain imaging - are widely interpreted as markers of accelerated brain aging. Here we show that this interpretation cannot be ...

🚨 New preprint: Objective Quality Assessment for Precision fMRI Precision functional mapping (PFM) enables individual-level brain network studies — but demands more, and better, data. We introduce an objective framework to determine when a dataset truly supports interpretable, replicable PFM.

Is schizophrenia associated with accelerated aging? In our new paper, we find evidence for consistently faster aging in schizophrenia, though not among unaffected siblings nor clinical high-risk youth doi.org/10.1017/S003...

A paper in Nature Aging describes the Dunedin Pace of Aging Calculated from #NeuroImaging measure, an approach that uses a single brain image to measure how fast a person is aging and can help predict mortality or the risk of developing chronic disease. go.nature.com/3GADPij #medsky 🧪
This is figure 2, which shows DunedinPACNI model validation and feature importance.

New preprint!!! We can reliably detect brain changes in individuals in just a year by collecting several rapid 1-minute T1s at each time point - i.e. "cluster scanning". We discovered large individual differences, even in healthy adults t.co/oxD9EBdbvu

Really interesting from @maxwellelliott.bsky.social et al: 1-year brain changes reliably detected by cluster-scanning - burst of multiple, very short T1's. Great potential for tracking individual differences in brain change over clinically meaningful intervals. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1...
