Nepal Flood Relief Fund
Catastrophic flash floods have swept through Nepal and communities along the Bhote Koshi river system, taking lives, destroying homes and critical infrastructure, and leaving hundreds of people unaccounted for. Floodwaters and debris have devastated remote communities across the Himalayan region as search-and-rescue efforts continue. Your donation to the Nepal Flood Relief Fund will provide urgent relief and long-term recovery support to communities impacted by this devastating disaster.

Tried something fun to gamify learning Git and GitHub at our local bioinformatics meeting! I wanted a hands-on way to walk people through forking, cloning, committing, and opening a pull request, so I built an interactive playground. How it works (1/3)

Just in case other folks find it useful, I wrote an #R package to track RAM usage during an analysis. It allows for bookmarking of specific timepoints and plotting. lnkd.in/gGW2gbNS

I updated my intro to #R workshop materials for this year. I put a lot of comments into it to hopefully make it more generally useful. The target audience is folks who have never done anything with R or any other #programming. Hopefully people will find it helpful. github.com/MVesuviusC/R...

Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel. King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.

I really like how forward thinking and well communicated this is. Also, re-implementing existing tools to produce identical outputs in a fraction of the time seems like it could be a good benchmarking method for new AI coding tools.

🥳 Our preprint is LIVE 🥳 Huge thanks to Lex Tallan and the Stanton lab for another fantastic collaboration! Here, we use zebrafish and MNase-based methodology to show that PAX3::FOXO1 and PAX7::FOXO1 have divergent capabilities for interacting with repressive chromatin states and nucleosomal DNA.

Just a preview of something I should have out soon. I'm putting together a paper using genetic variants in single cell RNAseq data to distinguish tumor from normal cells. I show why calling variants on single cells is a bad idea (tm). Relaxing normal cutoffs leads to inaccurate variant calls.

🧵- I spent years underestimating the importance of self-promotion and networking. I gave a talk last week about this. Who you know, and, more importantly, **who knows you**, is critical. More than just getting a job; it’s about publishing, getting grants, collaborations and getting invited to speak.

This issue is something I've bumped up against myself: "Only ~40% of studies provided readily usable processed count data that could be reliably mapped to GEO metadata, and fewer than 10% included author-provided celltype annotations" Strict structure for scRNAseq GEO submissions is needed
