So we're doing nine albums, huh? I grew up with the classics and have probably mellowed out some over the years, what more can I say.
An image from My9Albums, which includes nine album covers:

Soundgarden, "Superunknown"
Pearl Jam, "Ten"
Our Lady Peace, "Happiness... Is Not a Fish That You Can Catch"
Incubus, "Make Yourself"
Filter, "The Amalgamut"
Nonpoint, "To The Pain"
The Revivalists, "City of Sound"
CHVRCHES, "The Bones of What You Believe"
Tame Impala, "Currents"

My understanding of the Protect College Sports Act is that it is yet another example of how Americans love the free market until they don't, this time curtailing the overall earning power of college athletes. Do I have that right?

Fuck ChatGPT flyers. The future is broadsheets.
A crowded broadsheet with way too many fonts. It says:
Forget ChatGPT Flyers
Say it with
Broadsheets
Unlimited fonts
Stretch them
Or cram a really long sentence into one line for no good reason
No whitespace
Mix capital and lowercase
Pointing hands
(They're called manicules!)
Don't be left behind
Broadsheets are the future

I think a significant chunk of America -- its people and its institutions -- has a problem with focusing far too frequently on "problems" that aren't actually problems.

It's too depressing and obnoxious to write about, but virtually all of the doomy/horny AI hyperventilating is transparently displaced anxiety about our fucked climate and political situation. Even rich idiots know it's bad and being permitted to get worse. They're trying to write their own ending.

The thing about AI slop imagery being used so heavily for Instagram marketing and such is that looking at all of it, with all of its tiny but unmistakable misalignments, is a horrorscape of visual rhetoric. It's like being in a room where every framed piece is slightly ajar.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel we see Sarah, the protagonist, next to a stick figure labeled “AI”. The stick figure says, “my outputs look just like yours now.”
The second panel zooms in on Sarah’s face. Above her we see text reading “I think”.
The third panel zooms in closer on Sarah’s face. Text above her reads “you missed”.
The fourth panel shows Sarah drawing happily in a sunlit room. The text above her reads “the point”.

ICE abducted a WBB player while she was traveling with her Kentucky State team in early August at Louisville airport. She has been imprisoned for 1.5 months and denied care for a serious ACL injury. It is the responsibility of universities and the NCAA to protect their players. They have failed.
Aminata Seck, 26, a student-athlete at Kentucky State University, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport while traveling with her school's basketball team Aug. 7, said Sadiqa Reynolds, a lawyer helping coordinate Seck's case.

Seck's team was headed to New York for a tournament, and she was taken into custody after going through airport security, said Reynolds, former president and CEO of the Louisville Urban League.

The American government has spent more money on a pointless war on the other side of the fucking planet than it would take to fix up its own front yard.
From the Washington Post:

Iran war cost is now at least $43.6 billion, U.S. Central Command says

The total includes $28 billion needed to replace munitions but does not account for damage to American facilities throughout the Middle East. From the New York Times:

Emily Thompson, the executive director of the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks, an advocacy group of current and former park employees, said the administration should be tackling the $24 billion backlog of deferred maintenance projects across the country.

Has anyone in writing center studies done a cost analysis for "the ideal writing center space, accounting for physical and online modalities as well as direct and indirect engagement with students and other stakeholders"? Have to think it's cheaper than "AI" is if you cared to do things right.

I've been trying to conceptualize how students at my college should approach AI as part of their writing process, if they choose to do so, and frankly, this is the best visualization I have so far:
Seymour Skinner, who appear coolly detached from the latest antics of one Bart Simpson, a known troublemaker. A subtitle reads, "Pathetic."
