I asked the panel on environment during the agrifood days if we could reach our clima & envi goals without significant diet change and related demand side policies. Julia from @ieep.eu stated that based on their research this would be impossible with our target for 2050 in mind. #EUAgriFoodDays

Rather underwhelmed by the answers of Felix from the European Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture who only adressed his dislike for UPF's and Anke from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences who mostly laid the responsability for more plant-based diets with individual consumers.

Who killed the strategic dialogue? This is the question @mep Clergeau asked in the closing statement of this event. He is right to call for the revival of this consensus!

Strong intervention by @eeb.org during the panel on agriculture for the future. They stressed the need to move away from factory farming of animals as it is terrible for farmed animals welfare, hurts our environment and threatens our strategic autonomy on inputs like feed and fertilizer imports.

Following the @socialistsanddemocrats.eu event on CAP today. Interested to learn about their vision for a fair and sustainable CAP and what their plans are for a just transition towards better farmed animal welfare, nature protection and delivering on healthy food for Europeans.

Why did Brittany Ferries U-turn on live animal transports?
Brittany Ferries promises an 'unforgettable experience'. So it is unimaginable that the firm has done a U-turn on transporting live animals for slaughter, 30 years after abandoning this cruel practice...

In the EU we have 22,236 'farms' with permits for > 40k for 🐔, >2K for fattening 🐷 Imo, in these cases we are talking about factories and not about farms. Factories where billions of sentient animals are exploited to squeeze the biggest amount of profit out of them. Great work @AGtivist_agency!

If we want future generations to have biodiverse oceans full of life. We, EU citizens need to drastically reduce our fish intake. The best thing you could do for the ocean is to stop consuming fish and seafood altogether. EU officials and MS's should prioritize protecting our oceans better.

Déjà vu? @ec.europa.eu is yet again slashing the few green measures in EU agricultural policy❗ But such “simplifications” will hinder, not help farmers as degraded ecosystems fail to provide the resilience needed to withstand the impacts of the climate, nature, and pollution crisis. #CAP #Omnibus
Such short-sighted decisions will not only hinder farm resilience but brings the legitimacy of the CAP into question as it strays further from its environmental and climate objectives - Théo Paquet, Senior Policy Officer for Agriculture

Sadly, 🇮🇹 Min. Lollobrigida answered a q on the importance of food innov exactly as expected... 'Innovation is good, but as long as it goes hand in hand with traditional agriculture, we don't want to waste taxpayers' money on creating meat in labs.' Fear of innovation is not the vision we need!

On the evolution and not revolution point: when farmers are quiting by the millions in the last decades, average farm income is bad, AW is too often neglected and the strain of EU AGRI on ENVI is destructive, we need more than small tweaks to the system.

Thanks to Ines of @eurogroupforanimals.org to share the complex step by step way in which a cow stands up. Making it possible for all cows to freely stand up should be the bare minimum for cows in the EU. We look at the Commission to include a ban on tethering in the animal welfare revision.

As cows are social animals that like to graze, meet with their friends and move around freely tethering is a practice that should be banned asap in the EU. Sweden shows that phasing out tethering is possible. Other EU member states should follow their example. The EU should propose an EU-wide ban.
