You also don't have to do an editor's job of deciding if a paper "fits" or is "impactful enough" for their journal, because you're a scientist and not a marketing agent for the publisher.

Others have said as much but I can confirm that the reviewer crisis does not apply to well-known/high-status/controversial authors. For normal papers you need to invite tons of reviewers, so you get used it. If it’s a big-fish paper and you didn’t do the link-reviewers things, you end up with this.

A meta-analysis is not a ‘easy’ publication. Search strategy development, screening, more screening, data extraction, requesting additional data, risk of bias assessments, the actual synthesis, write up—it all takes time. Many people heavily underestimate the resources required to complete one
