So apparently now I have an official diagnosis: AuDHD. Well, that explains a lot of stuff.

Subject to slighty changes but the main gist is here: nine games that shaped... not exactly who I am, because I already was an adult when I started to play videogames, but still a major influence.

The games: Marathon Infinity, Doom (the old version), Myst, URU Ages Beyond Myst, Antichamber, Proteus, Cube Escape Paradox, Monument Valley, Machinarium

Been thinking about how “you can do it if you just want it enough” is such a privileged take. It’s especially damaging to neurodivergent people. I assume, at some point, we’ve all thought we were just lazy bums who didn’t want things badly enough, while literally breaking apart from trying so hard 🥲

Some day Destiny and Destiny 2 will cease to exist in their entirety, which is baffling. Games and spaces I have loved and spent thousands of hours in, and they will only exist as unplayable files on a hard drive with memories. Games preservation is important, y'all. No matter how it gets done.

Saw this as an (intended) insult (from an AI fan) some days back: "A brain-only writer." (amused side-eye) Yes indeed! And some day, when your data-center-fueled crutch fails and leaves you unable to "write" without it? I'll *still* have a brain. Which *you'll* have been taught to forget how to use.

In an absolute selfish way, I'd prefer slightly before, like 2008, when I still had a stable job, wasn't clinically depressed, and Husband's chronic illnesses still didn't take half of his motor functions away. (I had crippling anxiety, 'tho, but that's the background radiation of my whole life.)

Even if you don't care about trans rights (insert the shame bell here), maybe take the time to understand that, if you're part of any sort of minority group, or disabled, or a woman, or anyone they don't like, *they will do this to you next*. You'll never be "one of the good ones" enough to be safe.

In case anyone wonders, I'm the one behind the "Maratoon" project, under the Juzo-kun handle -- redrawing every. single. sprite. of the game in a decidedly cartoonish and stylized manner. Doing the player character (which are 203 sprites repeated in eight colours...) simplici7y.com/items/marato...

A screenshot of some of the sprites of the player character in the game Marahon, redrawn in a more cartoonish style.

being able to draw isn’t a gift or talent— it’s a skill. skills can be learned by anyone, at anytime, as long as you have motivation, patience, and don’t give up after failure attempts. your favorite artist probably has a mountain of sketchbooks full of failed drawings, too.

More to say on burnout and I'm probably going to boost it a few times because folks need to hear it: Burnout is a form of brain damage. It happens when stress conditions persist until they damage our brains. It's an injury that needs to heal, not a weakness that needs to be pushed through.
