Ok. Why is the media not calling them that?

We're derailing. My intention was to point out that, according to the media, all Russian billionaires are oligarchs and no American billionaires are oligarchs. Either that is simply true, or there is a reason they use different language.

Musk literally ran DOGE. And given how much of US government is buyable, at the least it's a shadow oligarchy

you to know: your exhaustion is by design. The bombardment of daily "Doom News" isn't accidental. It is a calculated strategy. Authoritarian movements and the billionaires who buy up media platforms thrive on your despair. Why? Because hopeless people do not organise. Hopeless

The media only uses the term oligarch for Russian billionaires. Musk and co fit the definition just as well, and yet they get innocent sounding labels like tech mogul.

‘Supersizing before our eyes’: UN warns of record El Niño approaching
Event is likely to be largest in at least 1,000 years and will pile extra heat into a world already in a climate crisis

Soon we'll all be climate refugees.
The El Niño is likely to be the largest in at least 1,000 years and will pile extra heat into an atmosphere where temperatures are already rising rapidly due to global heating. The combination means 2027 is set to “blow apart” the record and be the hottest year ever recorded.

A sad truth is most companies do not know how to assess quality of knowledge work. This is why they resort to RTO policies because they can’t simply judge if people are working better or worse from home. This is also why they think all AI usage is good when most of it is obviously counterproductive

And to everybody claiming to be a free speech absolutist: no, you're not, you just haven't thought about it from first principles. Free speech is a tool to make a better world, not a goal in itself. Rights end when they infringe upon rights of others, which is why hate speech et al must be illegal.

Same for me. Writing is more than converting thoughts into text. Writing forces you to think about your ideas, what you're trying to say, what audience you're trying to reach, how to express it in a way that they will understand. If you outsource your thinking to a machine, why should I read it?
