The most satisfying part of my job is that I occasionally get messages like this, from folks who were able to land a job in part due to my courses. ❤️

I just wanted to say I took Joy of React around Nov-Dec of 2024 and then spent 2025 building portfolio projects, doing an apprenticeship, then a paid internship and finally got my first full time job offer as a frontend React dev!! I start on Monday! And I’m having fun working through whimsical animations in my last week of being funemployed.

My home of Missoula just voted to establish the pride flag as an official government flag of the city, thereby circumventing the state's asinine pride flag ban. 🏳️‍🌈 Missoula is once again showing how to fight back against policies that seek to erase the LGBTQ community.

I really wish I could stop using AI as the example for every thread, but it truly does embody every single product design antipattern. Here, "we'll make a chatbot and you figure out what it's for" is the way all of this works, down to Nvidia cranking out chips and Microsoft building data centers.

Asking AI about coding (or anything?) feels like when you go ask a professor for help and they just start talking for 10 mins straight without any checks for understanding and you just stare at them blankly. Like please this was a yes or no question. Why are you giving me a full page of code.

Love this! I would ‘soft launch’ the idea of functions with @fawnnguyen.bsky.social ‘s Visual Patterns during our entire Pythagorean Theorem unit as warm ups / number talks. Bc diving into rate of change on day 1 of a unit with little to no prior experience is rough.

What else is going on…… Oh, I made party sandwiches by baking focaccia in a bundt pan.

Two large, bundt-shaped sandwiches on a cutting board, with cropped people behind it. One sandwich is veggie, with roasted eggplant and peppers, arugula, hazelnut hummus, basil, half of it with cheese; the other is an Italian sandwich with mortadella, soppressata, provolone, mozzarella, giardiniera, arugula.

It’s worth noting that Bluesky is organized as a PBC, which means that while they are for-profit, they do not have an obligation to maximize shareholder value if it conflicts with the public interest.
