That punchline really made me chuckle. In fact, gone are the days when I would think 'Stephen Bush? On the News Quiz?' 😁

Jewish families stood alongside Irish dockers, trade unionists and neighbours from across the community. More than 100,000 people filled the streets. On Cable Street, they built barricades from timber, paving stones and an overturned lorry. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFY4...

I agree, that's the approach I would take if I were king for a day. According to the stats under 15% of pensioners rely solely on the state pension. I would means test it, which I expect would leave plenty of room for a not insignificant increase to the basic pension.

That's conveniently ambiguous. The pension will continue to rise, by one of two factors. Actually, it's a benefit that will continue to go to lots of people who simply don't need it. It just won't rise by a third factor, which rendered it totally unsustainable for the coming years.

We are getting screwed out of our pensions by a commitment that nothing will change until 2030, and then the pension is guaranteed to rise year on year?

Tice is the epitome of a nepo baby. There's galactic sized disparity between his confidence and his actual cognitive abilities. Can you imagine where he'd be if he hadn't been born into wealth? Wandering the streets probably, staring into jewellery shops, completely mesmerised by the shiny objects.

I think some people need to start heading their responses with a little disclaimer - 'Hi, I'm gonna be going straight on the attack in my very first post. Hope that's OK with you, hun?' Something a little bit like that, perhaps.

I really hope so, too, but I'm not confident. She got an airing on the James O'B show today as well. Amazing courage in the circumstances, but given the black shorts are planning a visit, a really important voice. I wonder if Piddlington will find they've bitten off more than they can chew.

I waited till late into the run before seeing The Odyssey, so it'd be nice and quiet. I still ended up with someone in front of me checking her phone. The fascinating bit was she lasted about 1hr before the first check. Then they got quicker & quicker each time. A classic case of being 'sucked in'.

The people of Piddington have spoken. I say, grant them independence. Border controls. Visas to cross into the UK. Tariffs on goods. No GBP. No NHS. No benefits or pensions. Let us know when your little lilywhite enclave has gone all Mad Max and you started eating each other. BUH-BYE!

This is very powerful. In fact, I think I might try to re-post it every day. We're gonna have to start thinking about how we square up to the racists because soon, it might be too late. I wonder if Piddington's little referendum stunt would have received so much media attention if it was 'up north'.

I thought Rayner was pretty evasive in interviews today, but to suggest that she doesn't understand how the world 'really' works is just silly. And frankly a bit lazy. Single parents in their teens who go on to work in the care sector tend to know all about the realities of life.

You can have all the money in the world. All the power you've ever dreamed of. You can be surrounded at every turn by sycophants praising your every syllable. But you can't switch off that voice inside. And when you're broken and twisted and you've done terrible things it'll never stop haunting you.

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree that both are paid up members of 'the establishment', Farage maybe more so. I just think Farage has his fingers crossed behind his back far tighter than Tice does. I'm not sure Tice sees it as JUST a grift.

She actually started listing dodgy right-wing 'think-tanks' as evidence that there's a wealth drain going on. Or, in other words, as an argument for lowering wealth taxes. I mean, what kind of 'journalism' is that? I couldn't quite believe my ears.
