I’m also seeing a big swing towards investors seeking out promising solo developers in this time. Even if you find your unicorn, the idea that a single person (who has probably never shipped a game before) is going to produce your product reliably and on time, by themselves, is a WILD concept.

As someone who runs this brand of indie studio and managed to ship a console game, it’s possible but you will pay with time what you can’t pay in money. And sustaining any sort of team over that period of time with little to no resources takes a larger emotional toll than most people realize

btw if you've never read Roger Ebert's review of The Mummy it's so good it changed me as a person

There is within me an unslaked hunger for preposterous adventure movies. I resist the bad ones, but when a "Congo" or an
"Anaconda" comes along, my heart leaps up and I cave in. "The Mummy" is a movie like that. There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it. I cannot argue for the script, the direction, the acting or even the mummy, but I can say that I was not bored and sometimes I was unreasonably pleased. There is a little immaturity stuck away in the crannies of even the most judicious of us, and we should treasure it.
