After learning about deforestation at school, my 11 year old felt driven to donate, volunteer, and speak out. She even took the TEDx stage to continue sharing her message. Educators do so much more than teach; they inspire youth to care, act, and recognize the power they have to make a difference.

In a nutshell, our nationwide study shows that when policies support LGBTQ+ rights, youth-serving professionals are more prepared to support and advocate for/with LGBTQ+ youth. That matters because affirming adults can be life-changing, especially in today’s climate.

The CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey has monitored the wellbeing of America’s high school students since 1991. Since 2015, it’s been a vital source of data on LGBQ youth. In 2023, it provided the first ever nationally representative sample of transgender teens. As of this morning, it’s gone.
