It's always fascinating when Dancing With The Stars includes a former Olympic skater. By any reasonable standard, they are already world class dancers, on ice. Kristi Yamaguchi dominated the show 16 years after her Olympic prime. Amber Glenn the same year she won her gold? Good luck everybody else!

This is an interesting perspective but the TV shows mentioned here weren’t produced by the film side of Marvel, like they are now. They were made by Marvel Television until 2019 under Jeph Loeb, who was himself a writer/EP from TV on Heroes. These shows all had Showrunners. I worked on some of them.

Streaming services with ads means it sort of just full circled back to Cable Tv. Except now there are no cartoons because streaming killed them. So we just cycled back to the start, but killed several entire mediums (sitcoms, teen and kid animation) in the process.

It's not just that streamers are doing TV but more expensive. They also decimated necessary practices like practical budgets and dependable production schedules. Then, with shortened episode orders & smaller staffs / crews, made it so no one under 40 can break in anymore unless they're connected.

Finally saw Supergirl. I liked it more than the most recent Superman movie, but I expected more than a True Grit remake with a little John Wick thrown in. Milly Alcock is great as Supergirl, her character moments are interesting, but as is often the case muddy CG super fights are underwhelming.

When I worked on Doctor Who it was a very frugal production. Mostly filmed in cheap locations to avoid building sets. Barely any VFX budget. No overtime ever. They considered it a kids show. These “cinematic” shows the BBC wants? They cost a fortune. The BBC doesn’t have that kind of money.

These Foxtrot-class Soviet submarines are all approaching their end of life. The one in Long Beach has holes in the hull and is about to be scrapped. I shot a movie in her sister ship, B-39, in San Diego in 2013, but it was towed to Mexico and scrapped in 2022. share.google/Jk4UFWB936KR...

A big difference between the Emmys & the Oscars is that the Motion Picture Academy totally controls the Oscars show. Whereas in the wheel system for the Emmys, the 4 networks produced the shows on their years, dictating the hosts and entertainment. I wonder if that will change in the new deal?
