A bit of seasonal cheer: these nostalgic and highly elaborate stockings I made for my kids. 🎄

Two Christmas stockings, one covered with a design of teddy bears and one with a design of puppies. They are heavily decorated and embroidered.

My latest sock toy is finally complete: three headed hydra, imagined by 7yo and made by me. Entirely made from old clothes and scraps. Most of his decorations came from a pair of gloves (the fingers are his legs). He has a pipe cleaner skeleton which makes him poseable. 🐲🧤✨

A red, three headed hydra seen from the side. Each head has a red frill on either side and pointy teeth. He has six black and white striped arms and a long tail with a furry black and white ridge on top.

The hydra seen at an angle from the back. His back has a kind of patchwork, reptilian effect with a central patch covered in small black rhinestones.

The hydra seen from the front. You can really get a good view of the heads' slightly goofy expressions.

ER doc here! This is a lie. Wait times are up because the American healthcare system is an unsustainable business model and a for-profit national healthcare system just doesn’t work. These problems will continue to get worse until we change that system. It literally has nothing to do with immigrants

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

Living in a Scottish tenement flat means that every builder is like: "Your walls are too old to repair without causing more damage. Don't plaster, paint, breathe, or look at them. I will put new walls over the old walls. I will put in a drop ceiling. I will build you a tiny house inside your house."

Pet parrots which typically live alone (whilst those in the wild live in large flocks) were given the technology to call each other. They would use it for up to three hours a day, and developed favourite friends 💔 on.ft.com/3K05vhS

When a parrot wanted to connect with a distant friend, a touchscreen showed a selection of other birds available online. The parrots learned to activate the screen, designed specially for them, by touching it gently with their tongues rather than pecking aggressively with their beaks.
"We had 26 birds involved," said Hirskyj-Douglas. "They would use the system up to three hours a day, with each call lasting up to five minutes." The interactions ranged from preening and playing with toys to loud vocal exchanges.
"When we went through the data, we found that most of these parrots had favourite friends," said Hirskyj-Douglas.

The cloud people have a ship now which I made based on 7yo's design. The sail is definitely my favourite part. I love that we are building up a collection of toys together which have all come from his imagination.

A colourful stuffed ship. The body of the ship is made from yellow and orange boiled wool. It has portholes on the side. A smiling cloud person is riding on deck. Above waves a square, geometrically patterned sail in rainbow tones. In the middle of the sail is a smiling face.

I made some little cloud people with 7yo based on his drawings. I'm quite happy with how the golem guy turned out!

Two cloud characters in shades of white, blue, and gray. The one on the left is a golem type creature with bulky limbs. The one on the right is a peaceful smiling cloud with arms.

A back view of the cloud golem. He has a large puffy cloud shape diagonally across his back.

Is your child also an agent of darkness? I've been making a stuffed toy family of skeletons and zombies for 3yo, who lives for the spooky life. 💀

A family of stuffed toys, mostly made from socks. There is a big teal skeleton with a heart on its chest, a little skeleton with paracord limbs and embroidered bones, and a large green zombie doll. The zombie has pink brains coming out from one side and spiky green hair. It is wearing a striped blue and white top and black shorts, both of which have a ragged hem.

Just for fun: I redrew 7yo's drawing of his sky castle. Feel pretty pleased with it, although 7yo just came in to tell me the rock golem is supposed to be holding a helicopter, not a hammer. "Can't you tell?"

A cartoonish, smiling cloud with arms holds up a sky city under a glass dome. The city is filled with castles and turrets which are connected by ropes. A friendly rock golem saying "yay!" carries a boy on his shoulder in the air. Outside the dome, an unfriendly golem is attacking the dome with a large hammer. A figure inside is shooting arrows at him. A tiny figure wearing a crown is standing on the central castle.

An olive green sweatshirt, folded up. There is a large embroidered design on it of the words "GOOD BOYS" spelled out by light pink cartoon worms. A small cardboard tag has been attached that says "Mack and Rose".

Sonic notebook for 7yo so he doesn't feel left out. I destroyed two needles making this which I think means I get to buy an awl?! (Ah the joys of gearing up for a new hobby!!)

A handmade notebook in the process of being bound with dark red thread. The cover has a stylized image of Sonic the Hedgehog, blocked in by two bands of washi tape with a drawing of city rooftops. Some dividers in the shape of Sonic's rings are sticking out of the top.

I was sick of all our half-used activity books that I can't bear to throw out because they are too expensive, so I have turned 5 of them into 1 new book for 3yo. I find these things too prescriptive so I've just cut out the pictures I liked best and removed most of the instructions.

A close up of a bright yellow paper notebook with a sewn red binding in a Japanese style. The front is decorated with some illustrated alphabet letters.

A photo of the interior of the book. One page has an illustration in dark colours of wolves howling with blank speech bubbles coming out of their mouths. The facing page has an illustration of four partially finished portraits with suggestions to add the missing components.
