Day 1 of #31DaysOfGraves list of prompts by @annaandthedead.bsky.social. - For ‘flower’, I looked back at my visit to Sheffield General Cemetery a few winters ago with my friend, her sister, and her niece. I loved this posey. Kinda wish I’d moved the grass stems, though!
A closeup of a gravestone with a carved posey of flowers above the name WILLIAM. There are a few frosty leaves, moss, and grass stems on the stone. An image of the New Jewish Cemetery, Kraków, overlaid with text:

I want to read the essays those seven fraternity members wrote. If they even wrote them. I expect it was a ChatGPT job.

I had never lost an end from my nose piercings (I have paired nostrils) til June this year, when one of my beautiful white gold ends disappeared right before graduation. Since then, I’ve lost THREE more. Sake.

I visited Belle Elmore’s grave yesterday, and lacking as I was in secateurs or gardening gloves, cut back the brambles with my embroidery scissors. Her resting place deserves the care. If you haven’t read Hallie Rubenhold’s ‘Story of a Murder’, it’s well worth your attention.
A side by side before and after photo of a grave site. On the left, the space has brambles growing over it, and in the right, they’ve been cleared. A close up of the inscription on a gravestone, reading:

IN MEMORIAM

CORA CRIPPEN (BELLE ELMORE)

WHO PASSED AWAY 1st FEB 1910

REST IN PEACE

On this day in 1981, Richard Cobb got an honorary degree from the University of Essex. That may not seem significant to you, but it makes this afternoon the 45th anniversary of one of the finest graduation addresses ever delivered 🧵
A grey slate plaque with white lettering reads: Historian Richard Cobb got an honorary degree here on a sweltering day in 1981. His speech, in full: “Well, it’s very hot and the pubs are open.”

I keep forgetting I have this app… Anyway, it was Pride in Edinburgh over the weekend. My disabled body wasn’t up to the march, but I drank bubbles in the sun with my glorious community.
A sticker in trans pride colours saying STOP KEEKIN IN MA BREEKS YA WEIRDOSThe t-shirt I wore to Pride - it’s black with a trans flag on it, with SILLY GOTHS FOR TRANS RIGHTS above it in white lettering A selfie. I’m a white 41 year old woman with brown hair tied up in a knotted scarf. I’m wearing sunglasses and grinning at the camera, holding up a bottle of cheap Prosecco. I have botanical tattoos on my visible forearm, and a black t-shirt saying SILLY GOTHS FOR TRANS RIGHTS on it.

Being an “overly sensitive” neurodivergent who’s interested in history right now feels like being in a crowded building that’s on fire, trying to extinguish flames, yelling that we need to do something, with most people carrying on like nothing’s wrong. Or adding fuel.
